Give your kids a head start in their art/design career paths at GEMS (Singapore), mama

Got yourself a budding Alexander McQueen in the house, always itching to make new clothes? Or maybe your kiddo is keen on working in film, with the likes of Disney or Dreamworks… Besides going to art school, this international school curriculum could also be the perfect fit for your child. GEMS World Academy (Singapore)‘s new partnership with world leading Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) will help gifted design- and art-inclined students to hone their skills in order to be better prepared for their specific fields in the real world.

Anyone who’s a part of the art and design industry would know that a good portfolio can fare better in employment chances than an art qualification with little or no past work to show for it. GEMS (Singapore) understands the importance of building a good collection of artwork and projects in order for students to apply for the university of their choice and get a better chance in enrolment.

Subject to final authorisation by the International Baccalaureate (IB), the new IB Career-Related Programme (CP), would potentially make GEMS (Singapore) the only school in Singapore to have all four IB programmes (IB Continuum of Education)! It adds another academic pathway for students and allows them to focus their education on specific fields as they enter Grade 11. The programme is for highly gifted students with a specialism that they have already identified and want to target.

The IB CP is unique in its industry focus, partnering with academic or industry organisations to provide a career-specific element of education and training. Currently GEMS (Singapore) has partnered with leading art and design university SCAD, which has produced graduates who go on to work for some of the world’s leading fashion houses, media corporations and film companies like Lucas Film – just imagine, your kiddo could be part of the team that brings Star Wars to life!

The CP Core, which mirrors the Diploma Programme (DP) Core and comprises a Language Development Project; Personal and Professional Skills; Service Learning; and a Reflective Project, which allows students to spend 50% or more of their time at school working on their art and/or design. Applying to any art or design schools all over the world (including SCAD) with these skills will give them preferential status!

At GEMS (Singapore) you can surely find a broad range of pathways for every child to achieve their goals in life!
