Are you looking for a small international school where your child is known and appreciated for who they are so that they can flourish?
The old-fashioned proverb ‘Children should be seen and not heard’ couldn’t be further from the ethos at The Perse School Singapore where each child is encouraged to be heard, understood and known for who they are. This nurturing approach is built on the belief that positive relationships are central to both learning and wellbeing. It’s this kind of pastoral care that sets this school apart from many others. So how exactly does The Perse School Singapore achieve this?
A small, nurturing campus allows for strong pastoral care
The Perse School Singapore is a boutique accredited Cambridge International School emphasising academic achievement for 5 to 11-year-olds (with plans in the works to take 11 to 13-year-olds from August 2022) with a unique, nurturing environment only possible in a small school setting. The class sizes are currently small with a max class size of 20 (year 1) and 24 (year 2 upwards). A Teaching Assistant is present at capacity and when needed, while there are just 130 children in the school, with a max capacity of 290.
Pastoral care at The Perse School Singapore centres around the Form Teacher, who is the first contact for children or parents with any concerns. It is hugely important to them to recognise every child’s diverse achievements to ensure that they feel valued at school. In addition to the Form Teacher, all other staff are always approachable to students. Teachers are very aware that many children are not just starting a new school, but have moved countries and are often away from family and close friends so they make it a point to ensure children feel comfortable to talk to staff.
The Perse School Singapore values both their UK heritage and Singapore home. With children belonging to more than eighteen different nationalities, they celebrate diversity, nurture a sense of belonging and create a strong sense of identity. Your child will make friends with kids from all over the world, they’ll find common interests, accept differences and learn to appreciate other cultures.
British Curriculum with subject-specific teaching and Singapore Maths
The Perse School Singapore is an all-inclusive school with a holistic learning programme that focuses equally on a child’s wellbeing as well academics. You’ll be pleased to know that Singapore Mathematics, one of the best ways of learning Mathematics in the world, is taught here. Children learn useful problem-solving skills and are challenged to think critically and creatively, while reasoning and communicating their ideas to justify their chosen methods of problem-solving. This curriculum is based on the breadth of the Cambridge syllabus while employing the progressive and conceptual ‘Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract’ approach to teaching Mathematics that is characteristic of Singapore Math.
From Year 3, each child is taught by subject-specific teachers, who bring depth and passion to their subject. Having specialist teachers means they can closely monitor how each child is progressing in that subject and allows them to fine-tune each child’s learning along with differentiated multi-modal learning to cater to each child’s learning style.
