We don’t know what the future holds, but with the academic rigour and international-mindedness of the IB programme your child will be prepared for university, for work and for life.
One World International School (OWIS) has launched the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and is accepting applications for the 2020– 2021 academic year. If you have younger kids, you’ll be happy to know that they can begin their IB journey with the IB PYP (Primary Years Programme) at OWIS, for children from 3 years old. Students in Grade 10 at OWIS complete their IGCSE’s and can now continue their IB education with the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12 which will prepare them for the high demands of not just university life but their future careers as well.
The IB has become one of the gold standards of education with its mission to encourage students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers, with an emphasis on intellectual challenge and inquiry-based learning, rather than just rote memorisation and a knowledge-acquisition based approach to education. In short, the programme provides a well-rounded, comprehensive education that develops each student personally as well as academically so that they are ready for whatever the future holds.
What is the IBDP?
The IBDP is a two-year educational programme consisting of six subject groups and some core requirements, comprising Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Activity and Service and the Extended Essay. The six subject groups are studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and the arts, with different courses available under each subject group.
IBDP: A World-class programme
An analysis of the DP by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO)* suggested that “IB students are more likely than their peers to complete their undergraduate degrees and pursue graduate work” subsequently. Furthermore IBO found that the IB programme’s “heavy reliance on discussions, debates, oral presentations, written assignments and teamwork enables students to develop many of the skills necessary for civic engagement”.
Our world needs change for the better, and if your teen learns the skills taught in the IB, it will be a powerful lesson that could set them on the path not just to be able to adapt and cope with change themselves, but to be a changemaker of the future.
Why is the IB programme at OWIS different?
The IB programme at OWIS promotes creativity — students aren’t spoonfed facts – they need to come up with ideas, questions and solutions themselves. Collaboration, teamwork and research also play an important role in the IBDP. At OWIS, the IB DP aligns with their goal of preparing students to become globally-minded, compassionate leaders who can think critically and respect different viewpoints and cultures. Through the IB DP, students are supported in their physical, intellectual, emotional and character development.
In a world that is ever-changing, OWIS students who take the IB DP are nurtured to be active, life-long learners who understand different perspectives and people.
With students from over 70 nationalities, and teachers from around the world, the valuable insights that students get from their teachers and peers, prepare them to become future global citizens in our multicultural society.
