Thoughtfully-priced education, lots of outdoor learning, a diverse student and staff body… how does OWIS do it?
One World International School (OWIS) seems to check all our boxes when looking for an international school in Singapore. Their new 32,000 m2 Nanyang campus in the West is a dynamic environment with well-designed classrooms, sporting facilities and blossoming “Nature Classrooms” to encourage outdoor learning.
Non-compromised International Education
The excellent curriculum at OWIS is top-rated. Using the internationally renowned IB PYP underpinned with the English National Curriculum and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), students are well prepared for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, or any other globally recognised pre-university qualification.
Diverse Student Population
OWIS makes diversity top priority by implementing a 30% student nationality cap. This means no more than 30 percent of admitted students may come from the same nationality! The educators and staff at OWIS are equally diverse, representing a number of nationalities.
Outdoor Learning
The beautiful green grounds of OWIS make it the perfect canvas for holding lessons in a ‘Nature Classroom’. This encourages hands-on learning, relaxation and serenity with the help of nature’s colours and design, as well as lots of play to make learning fun! The Miniature Forest is a living library of native rainforest plants that invites children to recognise the value of the natural world in their lives. Featuring green grass, sand, and hills, the OWIS Early Childhood Play Area provide ample areas to climb, slide and tumble. The Sensory Garden is a place for students to wander and explore a range of fragrant flowers as well as wildlife such as butterflies and hummingbirds.
Inquiry-led learning
At OWIS teachers introduce a concept, discuss different ways of exploring it, and then open the floor for students to devise their own solutions, because allowing students to take the lead encourages passion and interest. This could mean doing more research in the classroom, or exploring the subject via the real world with a field trip – students decide! The teachers are there to ensure the learning process takes place wholly and completely to help children develop critical thinking skills.
Moderate Fee Structure
OWIS puts emphasis on a unique fee structure and centralised administration, resulting in a well-run school that gives you the flexibility to choose where to put your money. Non-compulsory activities come at a separate cost from the core curriculum – so core classes such as physical education are included in the school fees, but you only pay for additional soccer if you want to!
