It’s hard to communicate when you lack vocabulary and confidence. Where to start, mama? Learn English with British Council and grow into a confident speaker in no time!

Learning (and speaking!) English can be a little intimidating for non-native English speakers. You might constantly fret about using the correct word to describe what you’re trying to say, let alone pronouncing it correctly. Or even worse, unknowingly saying something offensive to your audience! WHAT you say is as important as HOW you say it. We know it’s daunting, mama, but you can take the first step by signing up with British Council’s renowned SMART English programme.

This year British Council is commemorating its 70th anniversary here in Singapore, and it’s empowered many, many students in their English skills along the way. How can you become more confident speaking English? Build a solid foundation by improving your language skills through practising real life tasks in writing, reading, listening and speaking — all under the guidance of highly qualified and dedicated British Council teachers.

Set your goals, choose between academic or general English, and take the next step to widen your knowledge both in classes and through self-study, mama. Keep your eyes and ears open because English is everywhere here in Singapore. From online articles to news on the radio, you can improve by constantly reading, listening and building your vocabulary all at the same time!

SMART English is a comprehensive course that helps students (aged 15 years old and above) advance their English speaking skills and communicate with confidence. It prepares you for work, career advancement or future studies. Besides the flexibility to learn at your own pace, SMART English will boost your confidence whilst you learn to communicate effectively in English with both teachers and classmates.

Learning English goes beyond the classroom through the further learning programme, free additional workshops for students and invitations to special events organised through British Council’s own arts and educational outreach work in Singapore, mama. You will practise what you learn outside the classroom and cement your English skills through various collaborations and teamwork with classmates hailing from countries all around the world.

For students aged 11-14 years old, give their English skills a boost with the SMART English Junior programme, mama. It’s an intensive general and academic English course which focuses on listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation to prepare for school life in Singapore, whether the school be international or local. It engages and supports students to be fluent in the language so that students can achieve in their school subjects. Qualified and experienced English teachers will guide them in their school studies and assist them in task-based projects like presentations, online research and exam skill strategies. This three-level programme, which takes about nine months to complete, evaluates the students’ progress through its in-house Aptis assessment tests.

So whether it is for your personal development or for your child to excel in class, give them a call and you can start class as early as the following Monday. It’s time to start communicating in English with confidence!
