Call us crazy, but we’ve got an activity that will actually make you want to brave the weekend IKEA crowds, mamas! On December 13 and 14, local celebrities and acclaimed children’s book authors will be guest storytelling exclusively at IKEA Tampines, in a holiday-themed extravaganza organised to raise money for UNICEF and Save the Children.

Christmas Stories at IKEAwill bring the store’s cuddly soft toys to life as they star in original tales created by local boldface names like radio DJs Glenn Ong and The Flying Dutchman, children’s book authors Adeline Foo (The Diary of Amos Lee series) and Melanie Lee (The Adventures of Squirky the Alien), and others. The store has actually created a special Christmas Story Cottage for the occasion – how enchanting!

For every soft toy and children’s book purchased between now and 3 January 2015, IKEA will donate €1 (S$1.65) to children’s education through UNICEF and Save the Children. Since 2003, the Soft Toys for Education campaign has supported 11 million children across 46 countries, including our neighbours in Cambodia and Vietnam.

IKEA Singapore will take the charity one step further by supporting local organisation Food from the Heart (FFTH). For every IKEA soft toy donated in the “Give Twice” box at the two locations in Tampines and Alexandra, IKEA Singapore will match that gift with an identical donation. Ultimately all these soft toys will be given out as birthday presents at FFTH’s monthly birthday parties for kids.

There’s so much to love about this program: it gets kids in the holiday spirit, it encourages them to use their imaginations, and it teaches them the importance of helping the less fortunate through the “Give Twice” box. So make merry and spring for some soft toys this weekend, mamas!

Christmas Stories at IKEA” takes place from 2-5pm on Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 December at IKEA Tampines, Level 4. Entry costs $1 per person on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 2pm.
