Love local reads, mama? Embrace the Singapore literature scene with your kiddos at a fun, book-filled weekend
Here at Sassy Mama, we’re always on the lookout for great reads, not only for ourselves but also for our little ones. Just check out our awesome list of books for emerging readers, and reviews on local titles like the Ranger Anne series by Anita Sebastian and Afternoon Tea at Raffles Hotel by Fleur Vella-Chang. There’s always something special about books with a local Singapore context. Kiddos can immediately recognise the sites mentioned (like the Singapore Zoo in Ranger Anne and Raffles Hotel in Vella-Chang’s book for babies) and they begin to picture themselves in those very places!
If you’d love to discover even more great reads from our little island, mark your calendar for #BuySingLit, the latest literature movement to celebrate stories from Singapore, led by publishers, distributors, non-profits and the like from the local book industry. #BuySingLit is for anyone and everyone who loves all things books – from aspiring writers to novice SingLit (the affectionate name for Singapore literature) fans to long-time local book lovers.
A highlight of the event is the fun-filled, activity-packed weekend of 24-26 February, celebrating with a total of 42 FREE programmes – over 20 of them being family-friendly! You’ll find a whole host of things to do with or without the kiddos, from book fairs to workshops, book-related activities at museums, storytelling activities, personal sessions with your favourite authors and more, with works in all four national languages.
If you’re not sure where to start, just read on below for our picks of programmes to attend!
