The Beauty Candy Apothecary: Fab New Store at Cluny Court

When we moved to Singapore nearly three years ago, Cluny Court was a cute little neighbourhood “mall” with a supermarket, a restaurant and a top floor dedicated entirely to antique furniture. Fast forward a few years and this Bukit Timah gem is now heaving with cute indie businesses and mama-run stores that ooze style and sophistication, with the latest opening, The Beauty Candy Apothecary already a firm mama favourite. Beauty Candy is brimming with trendy beauty products and fashion accessories, and having been lucky enough recently to check it out in person, I walked away with my Christmas wish-list sorted!

Designed to be like the small boutique businesses that line the streets of New York and London, Beauty Candy is all about beautiful, natural and trend-setting products for men, women and children — even the tiniest members of the family are well catered for with a selection of green, eco-conscious face and body products perfect for delicate skin. Their clean white shelves house some seriously lust-worthy brands that include Maison Balzac perfumed candles, Ilia organic make up (get your hands on their highlighter mama and banish those dark circles now!), Sugar Paper personalized stationary, and Tata Harper natural skincare products. Prices aren’t exactly cheap, but for the kind of hard-to-find brands that Beauty Candy stocks (and because being spoilt is always lovely!) it’s easy to look the other way when picking out your fave must-have products.

When I visited I made sure I left my restless 4 year old at home. While the staff were really lovely and knowledgeable about the products (and were even so kind as to give me a “mini make over” with a handy dab of blush and some clever under eye illuminator), I can see how bringing my son would have made for a less than relaxed browsing experience.

And after all that “mama time” spent shopping and playing with make up, I fell in love that little bit more when I discovered that Fresh Pressed is cheekily tucked away at the back of the store. Churning out freshly made, cold pressed juices in an assortment of flavours (the “beginner green” juice of apple, celery, ginger, lemon, orange and spinach was very good), you can either choose to drink your juice at the bar or take it home for later. They also offer fresh salads in addition to their juice cleanses, bringing a much needed healthy food option to Cluny Court.

So whether you’re looking to treat yourself, or are in the neighborhood and are craving something fresh to slurp on, make a bee line for Beauty Candy. Not only will you get lost in there for longer than you intended, you’ll probably walk away with a fab new lipstick or a lovely new perfume too… Because every mama needs a special treat every now and then!
