Angelina: A (delicious) taste of Paris at Capitol Piazza

Been to Angelina at Capitol Piazza yet, mama? This newly-arrived Paris institution has us saying Ooh la la!

You know we’ve always got our finger on the pulse of new restaurants in Singapore, but if there’s one new addition we are particularly excited about these days, it’s the arrival of French institution Angelina. We’re not using that word lightly, mama: Angelina opened in Paris in 1903 and was a celebrity fave from the start – Coco Chanel herself used to hang there!

The brand new tea room and patisserie within chic Capitol Piazza is modeled after the original on the famed Rue de Rivoli, featuring the same Belle Époque-inspired décor (check out the gorgeous ceilings!) along with Art Deco frescos and lamps, not to mention exquisite furniture and chandeliers sourced directly from Paris.

But of course it’s the cuisine that’s the true star here. We are simply gaga for Angelina’s signatures: the Old-Fashioned Hot Chocolate L’Africain (so named because it contains 60% cocoa content sourced primarily from Niger, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire) combines a slightly bitter, smoky chocolate taste with a delectable bowl of unsweetened whipped cream for the most magnifique liquid treat. (It also comes in an iced version – this is Singapore, after all!)

Equally decadent is Angelina’s world-famous Mont Blanc pastry, a domed confection drizzled with tendrils of sweet chestnut puree over a meringue base, all topped with a dollop of artisanal whipped cream. It’s a true symphony of tastes and textures: crunchy, crispy, creamy and sweet all at once, mama! There’s always a special seasonal alternative available, too, with recent iterations including Éclair Mont-Blanc and Mont-Blanc Framboise with a raspberry filling. Très délicieux!

We love that Angelina offers all-day dining, from the exquisite pastry-laden breakfast, to a sumptuous set brunch menu that goes all the way to 2:30pm, along with snacks, salads, and a wide variety of French bistro favourites available through dinner.

They’ve also got fabulous takeaway items in the adjacent boutique and delicatessen, where you can pick up everything from their signature tea and jams, to chocolates in the most gorgeous little keepsake tins, to beautiful macarons. And of course you can take away bottles of the Hot Chocolate L’Africain (in two sizes, no less).

So whether you’re looking for a special afternoon tea treat with your littles one, or a romantique night on the town with the hubstar, be sure to give Angelina a look, mama!
