Summer Camp 2015 in Singapore: Choose your own Adventure!

Sending our littles ones off into the unknown – whether it’s school, summer camp, or even on the bus somewhere by themselves – is quite a scary thing for parents. But how great is it when we’re rewarded with kids who are happy, independent and keen to explore the world? One such mama, Rachana Koura, had such a positive experience with Village Day Camp that she wants to tell other mamas in Singapore all about it for summer 2015!

What made you decide to send your child to Village Day Camp initially?
My daughter, Sonali, will turn 12 in a few weeks.  She started at Village Day Camp during its inaugural summer in July 2013 and loved it so much she went back last year as well.

What did you each like about Village Day Camp that made you choose it?
We both chose Village Camp because it provided a good variety and blend of activities, both physical and artistic.

When your daughter was attending, what sort of activities did she do? What were some of her favourites?
Each day had different activities planned. For example there was swimming and drama one day, and the next there was rock climbing with art.  They also went on field trips every Friday, which was a major highlight for my daughter.  One of her particular favourites was the Forest Adventure in Bedok Reservoir Park.

What other features did you like about the camp?
The daily camp timing – from 9am to 4pm – was absolutely perfect, and we used the transportation provided as we live in Bukit Timah and the camp is on the East Coast. It was definitely convenient as it was door-to-door.

We also liked that the lunch menus were provided a week in advance so we could plan ahead if she didn’t like what was provided.

What sort of communication/feedback did you receive from the camp staff?
When Sonali first started camp she was nervous since she didn’t know anyone; the camp director made a special effort to come and pick her up from the bus drop area and show her around. She also had two counselors, Zoe and James, who were from Canada and the UK, respectively [Village Day Camps employs counselors from around the world]. They were so much fun and were great role models for her. There is also daily communication from either the counselors or the administration staff.

Overall Sonali had a very positive experience, and made some wonderful friendships!
