Check out our handy dandy guide to three popular Bintan resorts to see which one is the perfect fit for your fam!
Just over an hour away from Singapore via the Bintan Resorts Ferry, Indonesia’s Bintan Island is one of our all-time fave destinations for a hassle-free family getaway. You’ve got gorgeous beaches, heaps of things to do, nice weather, and a wide variety of hotels and resorts to choose from.
But of all those beautiful Bintan resorts, which is the best for your family? Well, that depends! Are you after extensive kid-friendly amenities like a kids’ club and nature activities? Or would you prefer a more tranquil luxury spa vibe or couple’s getaway? Or perhaps you want spacious apartment-style accommodation? Three of our favourite Bintan resorts – Angsana Bintan, Banyan Tree Bintan, and Cassia Bintan – just happen to offer three unique accommodation options within one integrated destination. Read on to see which is the best Bintan resort for your fam!
Angsana Bintan: Fab for Families
Family holidays are always great in theory, but sometimes you’ll get to a hotel room and suddenly remember, Oh right, we have to share a room with our kids! This is particularly tricky when you’re dealing with naptimes or have to tiptoe around early sleepers at 8pm. With its popular Island Family Suites, Angsana Bintan ensures everyone can spread out and relax; each comes with two separate bedrooms and bathrooms, a kitchenette (perfect for whipping up baby meals), a living room and outdoor Jacuzzi. Of course all rooms at Angsana Bintan come through with that tropical vibe, offering a variety of ocean and pool views and a balcony or terrace.
Of course, Angsana Bintan is the kind of place where we have a feeling you won’t be spending too much time in the room; the resort offers the fantastic Rangers’ Kids Club, with free indoor craft activities and outdoor nature activities for children, along with a recreation room (foosball, anyone?), a massive swimming pool (and lovely beach), and a Conservation Lab where you can take part in free turtle releases and learn more about Bintan’s native wildlife and vegetation. You’ll also find water sports like snorkelling and kayaking, along with a gym and a spa.
Of course, if a relaxing spa-vacation is your main goal, might we suggest…
Banyan Tree Bintan: Luxury Pool Villas
Banyan Tree Bintan is the island’s only all-pool-villa resort, with each traditional stilted villa offering either a relaxation pool or infinity pool, and killer ocean views. Banyan Tree Bintan is a popular babymoon destination, and equally wonderful for parents who want to take a romantic weekend away. It’s also lovely with a baby or young kiddo who can sleep in a crib.
Two unique selling points of Banyan Tree Bintan are its world-class spa (which is so wonderful we’ve been known to nip over on the ferry just for a day trip – its panoramic ocean views and couple’s suites are To. Die. For) and its unique Destination Dining experiences. What do you fancy? A dreamy cabana? Floating in a fisherman’s boat? Nestled within a dramatic rock enclave? Even if you’re happy just to eat in a restaurant Banyan Tree Bintan has three yummy options to choose from!
Want some more space to do your own thing?
Cassia Bintan: Both Hip and Kid-Friendly
Yet another standout for its unique accommodation, Cassia Bintan is the island’s only apartment-style resort, with a number of airy loft units offering spectacular terraces overlooking the beach and South China Sea. Each and every apartment comes with a kitchenette, and you can even pick up ingredients at the grab-and-go store in the lobby, Market 23. Cassia Bintan guests also have full access to all the restaurants and facilities at Angsana and Banyan Tree – including all sorts of fun activities like jungle treks, bird watching, sunrise Yoga, beach soccer and volleyball, and kids’ movie nights.
What to do in Bintan
So you’ve got accommodation sorted, but are there actually things to do in Bintan? You bet! Besides all the aforementioned fun going on at all three resorts (easily accessed within walking distance of each other, or the free on-call buggy service), Laguna Golf Bintan is also nearby. Designed by Greg Norman, the stunning 18-hole golf course is close enough that golf lovers can tee off in the afternoon while kiddos play on the clean, private beach nearby.
Bintan has also recently upped its offerings for excursions and activities, including one-day tours like adventure treks and cultural heritage visits. Whether you want to take a heart-pumping ATV ride or see a fishing village on stilts or the beautiful temple inside a banyan tree, there are plenty of interesting things to do in Bintan that you couldn’t do here in Singapore.
