Smokey’s BBQ: Authentic American Grill on the East Coast

American dining in the East

I must say, as a bone fide American, with a life long love of Southern food (I was a Texan resident for several years!) I was seriously skeptical when trying Smokey’s BBQ — the All American “Authentic” Smokehouse and Grill in Joo Chiat. Needless to say, after a bowl of lip-smackingly good ribs and some spicy nachos to boot, I have to say they passed with flying colours!

You know how they say that everything is bigger in Texas? Well the same goes for Smokey’s as well. Their portions of smoked BBQ meats are delivered to your table with gusto, each plate filled to the brim with mammoth-sized American portions. Come with an empty tummy mama because you won’t be leaving hungry – it’s perfect for hungry kiddos and a good choice if you prefer to share a few plates rather than keeping one all to yourself.

When I visited, I learnt that all of Smokey’s sauces, dressings, rubs, sides and seasonings are made fresh in-house. The eatery is also decked out with custom made smokers where all of their meats are slow roasted for up to 20 hours. These guys mean business (and that means super tender and tasty meats for you!).

We pigged out on a smorgasbord of smoked meats — Baby Back Ribs, Venison Chilli Nachos, St. Louis Spare Ribs, and my personal favourite, Buffalo Wings. While it may sound like an extortionate amount of meat, I was dining with a group (not to mention the fact that the American girl in me got a bit over excited too when ordering!). Dedicated pescatarians, will enjoy their selection of fish dishes and make-it-yourself salad options. And to top it all off, they even have an extensive selection of craft beers (for papas!) and value-for-money wines (for mamas!) on the menu.

This al fresco, casual dining spot is perfect for a fun family night out. The playground right next to the outdoor patio is ideal for keeping restless kiddos busy, while the extensive range of smoked slow-cooked meats is sure to keep all committed carnivores happy. So put on your red, white and blue and give this American Smokehouse a try – you won’t regret it!

Psst… they even have a restaurant in Clementi (Blk 106 Clementi Street) — ideal for all those families in the West! Plus if you’re looking for somewhere to watch the NFL Superbowl XLVIII, Smokey’s will be screening the game live from 7am on Monday 3rd February 2014. They even have a “Superbowl Breakfast Special” available for all footy fans that includes breakfast plus two drinks for $39++.
