Birthday parties for the kiddos can be stressful – there’s so much to do and organize, and the last thing you want on your hands is a cake disaster if you’re fumbling with fondant or bumbling with buttercream! That’s why if you have a special occasion to celebrate we’d recommend giving yourself a baking break by leaving the main masterpiece in the capable hands of Ruth Gonzalez from Icing on the Cake.

The skills Ruth mastered during her time in the fashion industry have translated perfectly to her new career: attention to detail, creativity and high quality (often organic!) materials are the key ingredients in her cakes. Ruth trawls the internet and hunts through recipe books for inspiration before embarking on each bespoke baking journey for her clients. She began making birthday cakes for her own daughters and then graduated to giving them as gifts to friends, until the buzz about her scrumptious cakes spread like wildfire and the orders started rolling in! To keep up with demand Ruth created Icing on the Cake, specialising in home-made treats for the sweetest soirées.

As we like to think we’re birthday party experts at Sassy Mama HQ, we put Ruth’s cakes to the test by tasting them for ourselves. We had a tough time choosing between fancy cupcakes with fairies, Sesame Street treats and a checkerboard chess cake so sampled all three! Sugary sweet and delicious, every bite was so devilishly more-ish that we were tempted to polish off the lot! We have no doubt that the Thomas the Tank Engine Birthday cakecute caterpillar cupcakes and floral fancies would hit our sweet spot too as Ruth has a special talent for light and fluffy fillings and tasty icing!

Everything from Icing on the Cake is made with love and despite not being professionally trained, Ruth’s cakes will get all the “oohs” and “aaahs” you could wish for from your little party guests! The prices are also wallet friendly, which means you get a lot of bang for your buck (especially considering one cake can take up to 2 days to bake and decorate)!

So next time you’re in need of a brilliant home-made cake for your little one’s bash, why not get in touch with Ruth? We guarantee her creations will be the icing on the cake at your next party mama!
