As far as the foodie scene goes, there’s no place quite as diverse as this little island we call home. We can find countless styles of food within any budget; from the numerous hawker centres to the atas celebrity chef restaurants, Singapore has now taken things a a step further with private fine dining.

Whilst we’re all familiar with the private dining rooms offered by restaurants to provide diners with that extra bit of exclusivity, the new Scotts 27 takes luxe private dining to another level. It’s what one could call a perfect blend of exclusivity and residential private dining.

This beautiful black and white heritage house on Scotts Road is a boutique, reservation-only restaurant consisting of two levels. Meals are prepared by Chef Julien Bompard, formerly of acclaimed French fine diner Le Saint Julien, and are entirely customisable.

The ground floor has a total of three private dining rooms, each with its own decorative theme comprising a lounge and dining area that can accommodate up to six diners. The upper level has a large 25-person seminar room with the latest audiovisual facilities and a breakout room. There is also a lawn for outdoor events.

Now onto the food! My first course consisted of white asparagus and Parma ham with an orange dressing to give it a bit of a tang. This was followed by soft scrambled eggs with foie gras and a bacon emulsion. The eggs had an unusually creamy texture, the pan-seared foie gras (one of my all time favourites) was perfect, and the bacon reliably delivered that extra punch.

The next course was a roasted quail with caramelized onions and a java coffee sauce. My favourite part of the meal, however was the Crepe Suzette flambéed with Grand Marnier and served with Chantilly Cream. The crepes were delectably melt-in-your-mouth and the tangy orange sauce complemented the cream perfectly. The meal ended with some petit fours and the chef’s special Verbena Infusion tea, flown in all the way from France.

A 4-course meal here is priced at $168++ per person, and a 5-course meal is $198++. Every meal at Scotts 27 is fully customisable by Chef Julien and the restaurant boasts of one of the largest selections of premium wines in Singapore.
