Classical music for kids has never been this much fun! Summon your little superheroes for a costume-clad extravaganza this March, mama!
Keen to get your kiddos into classical music, mama? There will be no better opportunity than the latest installment of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO)’s concerts for children series, “Summon the Superheroes!”
Presented for the very first time in Singapore, the programme will include recognizable music from movies like Spider-Man, Superman, Indiana Jones and The Incredibles, along with tunes from all-time classic videogames like Super Mario Bros., Tetris and Angry Birds!
The Kilted Crusader (AKA narrator, and popular presenter, Alasdair Malloy) will take children on a rollercoaster ride of superheroic sounds from the SSO, showing off the orchestra’s super strength, super speed and of course super sound!
Children are invited to join in by donning a costume of their own – there will even be prizes in a Best Dressed contest following the show! In case you need some inspo, check out our gallery of DIY kids’ costumes!
There will be three performances at Victoria Concert Hall on Saturday and Sunday 17-18 March. Be sure to hold onto your ticket for a 10% discount on SSO’s next Concerts for Children production, mama. Click here to purchase tickets!

DIY: Red (or pink!) capes are easy to come by, then throw in a blue shirt and pants, a pair of red shorts, and have kiddo color in a printable ‘S’ to stick to his or her chest.
DIY: Varying shades of Khaki (for the shirt, pants and hat) are key here, topped off with a suede or leather coat and a pair of brown boots. Throw in a whip and a cross-body satchel and you’re ready for any adventure!
DIY: Any old blue overalls will do, though we suggest embellishing them with extra large yellow buttons (paper ones will work just fine). Throw in a red and/or green shirt (this is a great costume for a Mario & Luigi twosome) and oversized white gloves. A cardboard moustache is an absolute must; a red/green hat will help complete the look.
For Princess Peach, any pink princess dress costume will do the trick; top it off with a little crown and long white gloves and you’ve got the gist.
DIY: Accessories are really the key here; we like these DIY tips for making a cardboard tiara and wrist cuffs. You can then go as basic or fancy as you want for the rest of the outfit: a red shirt (kiddos can cut out and color the logo), red cape, and blue skirt or pants.
DIY: Is it us, or are the TMNT simply one of the randomest superhero creations of all time? (Not to say we don’t love ‘em!). Start with light green shirts and pants, then either paint on a yellow shell in front, or cut one out from a cardboard box. Complete the look with color-specific scarves around the arms, knees and eyes (scrap fabric should work just fine).
