Finding the right mama buddies can be tricky – many mamas find that pre-motherhood friends don’t understand the trials and tribulations of your “new” life, or you might have moved to Singapore from overseas and be without a clue how to start a social circle when your only best friend can’t talk back yet! For new mothers especially, getting out and about with a tiny tot in tow is a challenge in and of itself… Apart from Sassy Mama’s Meetups (of course!) one super-helpful tool is meetup.com and there are some fab Singapore groups on the site, which we’d love to share with you.

“0-18 Month Old Babies’ Mums & Expecting Mums” Club

The name might be unwieldy, but this is a real case of “does what it says on the tin”! Started by expat Alice Dumas, who moved here from London last August with her 4.5 month-old baby girl, the name of the meetup group was intended to be eventually shortened to something more snappy but has kind of stuck now. The group is specialized for both mamas and (and mamas-to-be!) with littlies under 18 months to bond regularly and play together. A win-win situation for both mamas and little buddies!

The group’s first trip out was a walk with just 6 mamas in the lush green at Gardens by the Bay in August 2013. The group have since then grown into a vibrant club of over 250 mamas with at least 3 meetups a week. They’ve also organized a variety of fun-filled activities – walks, playgym dates, coffee meets… all created just for tinies. Why not join them?

Psst! This group is currently looking for another co-organizer (with a young baby!) to join the team … so if you’re interested in lending a hand do let Alice know by dropping her a note at the website.

New Mother’s Support Group

This well-established meetup group and organisation has been around for over 20 years! You need to pay a $25 membership fee but then you’ll receive a mailed monthly newsletter as well as getting access to all kinds of special events, including talks by childcare professionals on all kinds of subjects. They also produce an annual printed guide full of great info and addresses and organize various socials and coffee mornings around town.

Singapore Active Toddler Playgroup

If you’re a bit past the new mama scene, and are looking for ways to keep your little bundle of energy busy, check out the Singapore Active Toddler Playgroup, which organizes tons of weekly activities and classes for busy littles. Being a member of this meetup group will also give you access to special discounts and promotions from partner businesses.

Totally new to Meetup.com? Yes, you will have to create an account and request to join the above groups before you can attend meetups in person, so expect it to take a few days for your request to be approved before you can start socializing! Once you’re familiar with the site though you’ll find there are groups for anything and everything under the sun… Maybe you’ll even end up creating your own mama!
