Need to get the most out of your skincare but pressed for time, mama? Unwind this weekend and multi-mask instead.
Beauty routines are precious to a lot of women. The thought of lovingly cleansing, toning, exfoliating, moisturising and masking the face on an uninterrupted cosy night in is what dreams are made of… and when you’re a mama, that kind of luxurious free time is just that — a fantasy! Cue multi-masking, one of the latest trends in skincare that gives you the most bang for your buck (or in this case, the most benefits in the shortest amount of time!).
Multi-masking translates to using two or more face masks in targeted areas of the face, e.g. the T-zone, cheeks, under the eyes, etc, at the same time. Here’s an example: if you love your holy grail clay mask for sucking out all the excess oil and impurities from your forehead, nose and chin area, but it tends to leave your cheeks feeling tight and dry, just apply it only on your T-zone and swipe on a moisturising mask on your cheeks – if you never thought of doing that before, don’t you wish you’d thought of it sooner? Us too!
The Body Shop’s latest range of Superfood face masks will help you do exactly that, mama. The paraben- and sulfate-free range is entirely vegetarian and each mask contains a Superfood from different parts of the world (sourced ethically and used with Community Trade ingredients, of course) that aren’t just good for your body, but also great on your skin. Click through our gallery to check out which of these babies you’ll be mixing and matching on your face!
Anyone else addicted to acai? We adore when it’s made into out-of-this-world desserts and used in healthy breakfast bowls, but the anti-oxidant and vitamin C-rich acai berry also fights the appearance of fatigue. The blend of acai berry extract, Guarana seed extract from Brazil – known for its energy boosting properties from its high concentration of caffeine – and Community Trade organic babassu oil known to soften, smooth and revitalise the skin all help to perk you up if you’ve had a less than favourable amount of shut-eye. Leave on for 5-10 minutes on your forehead and nose and massage into the skin for some exfoliating action for an early morning pick-me-up!
For an even more effective awakening, pop the mask into the fridge before your morning shower so it’s sufficiently cool to help to depuff any bloated areas of the face.
The dry patches on your skin will rejoice at the touch of this mask, mama! Mimicking the texture of real honey, this deep nourishing mask contains honey from Ethiopia, marula oil from Namibia and organic olive oil from Italy, all rich in nutrients that replenish and retain moisture, and restore and improve skin’s elasticity. Apply all over (even under the eyes) at the end of a long day for a deep nourishing treatment, and sleep soundly to supply skin!
Looking awake is one thing mama, but dull skin is a whole other issue in itself and calls for some serious traditional reinforcements. A millennia-old mainstay of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ginseng is known to stimulate circulation in the top layers of the skin, helping the cell renewal process. Fuse it with soothing and skin-calming rice extract, moisturising shea butter and sesame oil, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for visibly brighter skin in a jiffy. Apply to the high points of the face (forehead, nose, chin and cheekbones) for a natural highlighting effect or on areas with uneven pigmentation to even out your skin tone.
Infused with real rose petals, rose hip oil from Chile and organic aloe vera from Mexico, this refreshing gel mask is perfect for pre-makeup moisturising to get that perfect dewy glow – and what mama wouldn’t want that?! Feel your skin get plumped in all the right places as it gets a shot of skin-essential omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Apply all over after your usual toner to get the maximum absorption of ingredients and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off before applying a generous amount of moisturiser to lock it all in and you’re ready for a glowing, ‘no-makeup’ makeup look.
We saved the best for last, mama. Oily and clogged skin is one of the most common problems on this side of the world, and everyone flocks to the latest product that promises deep-cleaned pores and oil-free skin. Containing bamboo charcoal from the Himalayan foothills, Green tea leaves from Japan and organic tea tree oil from Kenya, this purifying mask is rich in antioxidants, exfoliates the skin and draws out impurities and excess oils like no other. The refreshing smell is enough to make you feel revitalised, but applying it to the skin is truly where you’ll see the full benefits. Be warned though, mama: the powerful ingredients in this mask makes it pretty potent and give a tingling sensation to the skin upon application. That said, it goes away after a few minutes and you’ll feel completely detoxified with incredibly soft skin after you’ve rinsed it off.
The Body Shop Superfood Masks range will be available in The Body Shop stores island-wide from 25 August 2016, retailing at $32.90 each. Members can enjoy 2 Superfood masks for $49.90 from 25 August – 21 September.
