Why it’s better to let kids learn Mandarin rather than teach them

Living in a multi-lingual country like Singapore, many of us want our children to make the most of their language opportunities, but when push comes to shove wouldn’t it be lovely if they could learn language naturally, rather than in a stifling classroom environment? None of that rote memorisation or forced repetition for us, thanks! That’s where Little Mandarins comes in; with a unique curriculum designed to evoke genuine curiosity and engagement, it’s truly Mandarin for a new generation.

Little Mandarins is all about building kiddos’ mastery of language through their five ethos of Play, Grow, Make, Care and Share. (We love that play is first on the list!). Lessons are truly brought to life through tangible objects, not just textbooks – for instance, each class tends to its own plant, and kiddos learn vocabulary through playing games and singing songs.

Little Mandarins

With nine years’ experience and passionate, bilingual teachers, Little Mandarins has proven results that encourage children to shine in a supportive, nurturing environment. You’d be hard pressed to find a lovelier setting than their peaceful colonial building in leafy Loewen Gardens, which offers nine open and airy learning spaces of flexible and varying sizes, not to mention birds chirping and breezes blowing through the window!

Kids are hands-on, kinesthetic, experiential learners, and the Little Mandarins curriculum – developed in consultation with respected Developmental and Behavioural Pediatrician Dr. Francis Dimalanta – aims to engage students with interesting, relevant learning materials that have proven highly successful and effective. Turns out the more fun kids are having, the better they learn!

Classes start from 20 months for Mums & Tots, with “Playlessons” for 3-4 year-olds and tri-level “Foundation” classes for kids aged 4 through 12. They’ve also got a range of super-fun holiday camps on offer through July and August, with everything from speech & drama, to arts & crafts and dance parties.
