The School Where Every Day is a Fun Learning Adventure: Shaws Preschool

A super happy mama tells us what she loves about Shaws Preschool!

Offering five locations across Singapore, Shaws Preschool is an inquiry- and play-based preschool that currently caters to more than 400 families across the island. With a truly child-friendly environment, and supported by trained and professional staff, children at Shaws learn through adventure and exploration. We caught up with Swiss mama Caroline Wymann, whose 3-year-old son, Mattis, attends the Mountbatten Road location, to find out more about why she loves the school!

How did you first hear about Shaws Preschool?
I live nearby, and knew many kids in the neighbourhood attended Shaws.

What factors played into your decision to send your child to this school?
There were many factors, including the kindness of the staff, school infrastructure, cleanliness, the school program, and the school’s organisation.

Did you take a tour of the school before making your decision? What were your first impressions?
My first impression was very good, the school fulfilled my criteria.

How did your child adjust to the school? Did the school take any special measures to help with the settling in process?
It was my child’s first time in school, but the teachers were very caring. The school sent me pictures/videos and comments throughout the day to keep me updated on how he was doing. It was very reassuring for us parents, and we really felt like we could trust the school.

What, in your opinion, are the three greatest strengths of the school?
Kindness of the staff, professionalism, and it’s very well organised.

How does the school include parents in the community?
We receive all information via their school portal and parents have the opportunity to participate in many activities throughout the year, such as sports days, carnivals and classroom activities.

What extra-curricular activities or out of school programmes does the school offer that you have taken part in?
The school has sports twice a week, which is part of the curriculum. My child loves this. In the afternoon, there is sport, art, robotics & coding, and swimming. My child takes part in sports activities, but I am also thinking to register him for other activities next year.

How does the school keep you informed about your child’s progress?
We can consult the school portal at any time. We can see all current and future activities. They take a lot of pictures of our child at any time and with the other children of his class.

What kind of child (or family) would you say would be the best fit for this school?
I think every kind of child can join this school. My child is very active and must be busy at all times with new activities; Shaws is perfect for him and for us parents.

What is the number one thing you’d miss if you transferred your child to another school?
The kindness and understanding of the staff, but there so many other things, too. Shaws is like a second home! The communication and website for parents is very well done and very complete.
