Discover the Dutch approach to learning at Holland International School where children aged 18 months to 12 years learn in a playful, cooperative, yet structured way and grow into critical thinkers who will become global citizens of the future.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your kids jumped out of bed in the morning excited to go to school? Unlike a typical top-down approach where students reluctantly comply with the teacher’s expectations and demands, the Holland International School offers something unique — a Dutch-rooted approach to education that allows every child co-ownership, equality and independent thinking. Kids learn in a playful, cooperative, yet structured way and are taken seriously by giving them a voice. This learning approach at Holland International School taps into kids’ naturally curious and inquisitive minds, allowing them to learn through play, exploration and engaging hands-on activities. It’s this freedom that nurtures children to have the confidence and assurance to be independent critical thinkers of the future!
English and Dutch Bilingual programme
Holland International School is the only school in Singapore offering an English and Dutch Bilingual programme for children aged 18 months to 12 years within the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
In preschool, children already benefit from the bilingual approach as it offers 50/50 Dutch/English groups with one Dutch and one English native teacher per group. The Dutch stream offers full-fledged Dutch primary education with Dutch as the language of instruction plus daily English language lessons. The English Stream offers full English language primary education with English as the language of instruction, in addition to daily Dutch language lessons.
Within IPC, students learn to work as a team towards a common goal, which fosters important life skills such as collaboration, cooperation, and problem-solving. Since the IPC curriculum instils a sense of ownership and responsibility in students from a young age, they grow up being able to think for themselves – all key skills of change-makers of the future. Beyond academics, the teachers nurture crucial life skills including problem-solving, responsibility, empathy and compassion, so that students are equipped and empowered to make a positive impact on the world.
The passionate teachers at Holland International School guide each student’s learning journey, paying close attention to their individual development and fostering students to take ownership of their learning. This child-centric learning approach teaches students to be responsible for their own learning, gives them a sense of equality and fosters independent thinking.
Less Homework, More After-school Activities
Because kids learn best through play, the unique play-based learning approach encourages students to learn by doing. Rather than sitting at a desk and listening to a lecture for eight hours a day, students take on hands-on projects that not only spark curiosity but create a lifelong love of learning.
With less homework, kids have time to choose from a wide range of after-school activities to become well-rounded individuals. Whether your child loves sports, drama, music or coding, there’s something for everyone!
So, if you’re looking for a school that provides an excellent holistic primary education in both English and Dutch, as well as a vibrant play-based learning environment, Holland International School is the place to be.
