Experience CIS’s Outdoor Discovery Centre and get a sneak peek into how CIS’ Kindergarteners learn through inquiry and purposeful play

As parents, we’re well aware that our little ones thrive when they’re having fun, and so do the team at Canadian International School! In their CIS Kindergarten program, learning unfolds through an inquiry-based approach and purposeful play. Here, children aged 2-5 embark on an exciting journey filled with interactive adventures in numeracy, literacy, arts, and STEAM, both indoors and outdoors. Curious about what inquiry-based learning looks like in action? Visit them during an Open House and get a sneak peek into the daily life of a CIS kindergartener.

Engaging learning starts with purposeful play

The early years of a child’s life are a treasure trove of self-discovery and boundless curiosity. Enter the CIS’ Kindergarten programme which is carefully designed to allow for engaging learning through the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor lessons. Angela Speirs, kindergarten principal at CIS, says “The CIS Kindergarten programme is based on the IB PYP framework with a proven approach to inquiry and play-based learning. Children are engaged learners allowing them to hone their critical thinking skills, excel at collaborative work and be able to solve problems creatively.”

Little tots attending the CIS kindergarten programme can look forward to daily lessons that revolve around hands-on activities across numeracy, literacy, music, arts, physical education as well as drama. These lessons take place in the various learning spaces in the kindergarten wing, including a junior library and a black box theatre. Children will also get to play outdoors twice a day, and have weekly lessons at the new Outdoor Discovery Centre, which has received praise from parents and kiddos alike for its use of innovative play elements. Picture this: a sound and herb garden, a mud kitchen, a thrilling bike track, and much more, brilliantly igniting the curious minds of the little ones. The new Discovery Centre is also located on the doorstep of the campus’ kindergarten wing, so our little ones need not travel far for outdoor learning!

Wait, there’s more: The programme also prioritises bilingual learning! Every student studies a second language daily or may choose to join CIS’ highly renowned French or Chinese bilingual programmes led by specialist teachers. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to hone their language skills at an early age.
