British Council’s Summer Study Camp is back this year, celebrating 70 years of improving students’ English skills

British Council, the world authority in English language, has been helping students and adults alike in Singapore for decades. This year, in fact, it’s commemorating 70 years here in Singapore! Among its most popular programmes: Summer Study Camp. It’s an intensive holiday program for primary and secondary students (aged 6 to 15) who speak English as a second language. Students can benefit from the extra English language support in a safe, fun and supportive environment in British Council.

All potential students undergo a pre-course assessment to determine the most suitable level of entry, from elementary all the way to upper-intermediate. Students have the flexibility to register for each module separately and attend as many or as few modules as they wish — perfect for the hazy, lazy days of summer. Every student also receives a certificate at the end of their course.

Mama, we know that children learn more effectively when they find tasks and activities fun and engaging. At British Council, all trained teachers (with a minimum CELTA postgraduate teaching certification from the University of Cambridge) use language learning games and activities in a meaningful way that supports the development of students’ language ability, while also giving them tasks they find motivating and enjoyable.

Besides building students’ confidence and speaking skills, experienced teachers use pair work, group work, and whole class activities to encourage and empower students to be active participants in their own learning. Students learn grammar and vocabulary, build oral confidence and communication skills, and enjoy games and fun activities. With a diverse group of students from all over the world, kids have the opportunity to learn from each other’s diversity and appreciate a range of cultures, enriching their knowledge from their peers through an exchange of cultures.

And the learning doesn’t stop in the classroom, mama. Teachers will guide students on how to make use of extensive online resources and mobile apps that British Council has available. This provides an enriching opportunity to continue learning even after they’ve left the camp. The happy campers say:

There are many interesting activities during the lessons. The course improves my speaking and listening skills.’ Park Kang Bin

I was so shy on the first day but the teacher was so nice and encouraged us to speak. By the end, I made friends from 7 different countries!’ Juliana Cacciotta
