No matter how they choose to communicate, children at Blue House Nursery and International Preschool are valued, celebrated and unique. Find out what makes this such a special place, mama!

Reggio Emilia is a term that gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean, mama? At the core of this renowned early childhood approach is the theory of The Hundred Languages of Children, as developed by Reggio Emilia pioneer Loris Malaguzzi, which believes that while children are only just developing their ability to speak, they actually communicate in hundreds of different languages, including art, music, movement and much more.

As Singapore’s first Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool, Blue House Nursery & International Preschool provides an immersive environment in which children can find their own unique voice – however they choose to communicate.

Blue House educators believe it’s their role to translate, interpret, encourage and support young children on this journey. As observers and facilitators, they aim to help children feel valued, important and welcome. This is a lofty goal you rarely see in Singapore preschools, mama!

With Blue House’s careful and deliberate approach, children see themselves as powerful and worthy of contribution; they become terrific problem solvers, researchers and collaborators, their confidence and curiosity always growing, a tremendous boon that will serve them well as they transition to “big school”!

Art is at the core of the communicative process for children, as it encourages creativity and self-expression. Art is also, not coincidentally, the heart of Blue House’s educational framework: find us another school that has multiple resident artists (who work directly with teachers to shape the curriculum and interact with students). Or an Atelierista who not only guides teachers and children through their projects, but maintains the beautiful Atelier art space, which becomes a hands-on place of research and invention for Blue House children whether they’re exploring clay, paint, sound, or even digital media.

As parents, we love how much emphasis there is on community, not just amongst teachers or even between children in different classes, but with mamas like us as well. With the firm belief that parents are children’s most important educators, Blue House extends frequent invitations to parents for events at the school. Such a strong sense of community further supports children’s well-being, along with their sense of belonging and becoming.
