Langham Place Hong Kong: The Ultimate Weekend Getaway with the Fam!

TravelPost Category - TravelTravel - Post Category - Short HaulShort Haul

Soaring 42 floors above the hustle and bustle of the streets of Hong Kong, with 665 rooms of sheer luxury waiting for visitors, a rooftop pool, and a swag of special touches for the youngest visitors, it’s easy to see why the Langham Place is the perfect choice for families visiting the Kong. So when the opportunity came up recently to leave Singapore’s sunny shores for a few days in the Fragrant Harbour this mama couldn’t pack her bags fast enough!

Not to be confused with the Langham Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Langham Place is located a hop, skip and a jump away from the MTR station in Mong Kok. If you’re travelling with kids this will allow you to zip from hotel entrance to train station in one easy step (and onto the red line which will take you straight to Central in 5 stops) – for this mama it allowed a straight-forward run into Hong Kong Island, where eating and shopping was waiting! For families wanting to stay more local however, the Langham also organises free walking tours around Mong Kok, helping guests take in the sights and sounds of the local markets (mamas – definitely keep the Ladies Market and the Jade Market firmly on your radar for a bit of solo shopping). There’s also a relatively new shopping mall attached to the hotel, which offers plenty of opportunities for a bit of late night retail therapy.

Quad Place (1)

Whether you’re travelling with babies or bigger kids, the accommodation at the Langham Place is nothing short of sensational. Friendly concierge whisked me straight to the 36th floor where I was greeted with a cool drink and a swift check in at the Club L lounge. The rooms themselves are perfect for families, with Essential Family Place, Trio Place and Quad Place (pictured above), the rooms to book if you’re staying with young kids. All three rooms provide double beds in addition to one or two single beds, as well as Little People welcome packs of colouring books, puzzles, stickers, slippers, and a bath robe — and as all mamas know when travelling with kids, it’s the small touches that count! Babies are also well accommodated with strollers, baby baths, booster seats, baby cots, and bottle sterilisers all available for booking ahead of time.

The room I stayed in, Club Place, had one of the most amazing views over Kowloon and Hong Kong Island I’d ever seen. The huge king size bed with pillow top mattress and feather soft pillows greeted me every evening and provided one of the best sleeps I’ve had in ages. My room was expertly “turned down” each evening, with their Dream Big series of surprise gifts, messages, and information — all designed to encourage sleep — providing some unexpected, but very welcome touches.

Club L

Sassy Mama Tip: When staying at Langham Place it’s worth booking a room that will give you Club L access – this open-24 hours-a-day lounge offers everything you need to make your stay with the family an incredibly comfortable one. They serve an assortment of meals and snacks all day long (mamas will appreciate that the buffet breakfast starts at 6am every morning and is packed with fruit, smoothies, and healthy breakfast cereals), making it easy for weary travellers to escape from the busy-ness of the city and chill for a bit with something to eat. Club L privileges also gives you access to the fitness centre — if you’re that way inclined — and the rooftop swimming pool on the 41st floor. Open until 11pm each evening, this stunning plunge pool allows families to indulge in a relaxing swim session, whether that’s before or after they start touring the city! And if that wasn’t quite enough, Club L also has a movie room packed with children’s DVDs, old-school video games and a selection of sweets (mama could barely resist the huge jars of jellybeans) to keep kiddies occupied while you eat a quiet meal with your other half or escape to the spa for a while.

Speaking of the spa, the well-known Chuan Spa is one to make room for in your travel itinerary when staying here mama. Tucked away in serene surrounds on the 41st floor, this super modern and ultra relaxing spa offers the usual swag of spa treatments, from massages and facials to hydrotherapy sessions and body wraps, but if you don’t get time to make it to the spa (like this mama — sniff!), you’ll also be treated to their spa products, like bath gels and body oils, in your room. Yippee!

The Place buffet - Langham Place Hotel

And after all that touring, spa time, and swimming, the hotel’s main restaurant, The Place, is worth a pit stop with the munchkins. There’s oodles of room inside for roaming littlies — and highchairs for when you want them to eat — and their delicious buffet spread offers something for everyone.

So next time you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway with the family in one of Asia’s most vibrant cities, look to the Langham Place to meet all your needs for family-friendly accommodation in amazing surrounds. Its close proximity to the city, and thoughtful family extras, make it one of the best kid-friendly hotels we’ve ever stayed in… plus, this mama would return just to get to sleep in that super comfy bed again.

Family Getaway Packages at Langham Place start at SGD375 per night and include accommodation in either Essential Family Place, Quad Place or Trio Place, HKD300 food and beverage credit for use in their restaurants, and a tailor-made Little People welcome pack.
