That Global Mama: Sai De Silva of Scout the City

We’re doing something a little different for December’s ‘That Mama’: We’ve gone global! Read on for Sassy Mama’s chat with the fashionable mother-daughter duo behind Scout the City

We’re big fans of ‘Scout The City‘, a lifestyle blog by American mama Sai De Silva and her gorgeous 4-year-old daughter London Scout, whose fashionable adventures in NYC have us (and the rest of Instagram) totally hooked. Scout is currently obsessed with ballet, Cinderella shoes and playing dress up – and she’s a late riser (jealous?!) so rarely leaves the house before 11am – when she and Sai head out for modeling jobs, picnics and finding the best fun in New York City. Find out more about them (along with their picks for the world’s coolest kids’ fashion), mamas…

Hi there! What city do you live in and how long have you lived there?
We live in NYC and I was raised here. My daughter was born in Montreal, but we moved to NYC shortly afterwards.

What do you love most about your city as a mama?
I love the diversity and convenience of having everything you need at your fingertips.

What would be your top tips for a family day out for visitors to your city?
There are so many attractions to see in NYC with Children. If I had to narrow it down, then I recommend strolling through Central Park and stopping by the zoo, shopping at FAO Schwartz, viewing the city from the Empire State Building and riding the carousel in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

Describe a day in the life of Scout and mama
Every day is different but Scout is a late riser, so we never leave the house before 11am unless she’s booked a modeling job or has school. We pick a day for shooting pictures as we walk to the park, or have a special girls day by going to the sprinklers or hang out with friends for a playdate. Playdates are her favourite.

What are your favourite fashion stores for kidswear?
Majority of the time, I shop online but some of my favorites include: Akid, Dolly by Le Petit Tom, Omamimini, Chalk NYC, River Island and Zara of course.

Scout is a mini fashionista, what does she enjoy wearing the most?
She is currently obsessed with a pair of rainbow sandals from Stella McCartney Kids.

Has Scout got any fashion endorsements?
We frequently work with numerous brands from Kardashian Kids to Barneys New York. We have been very fortunate in this area.

What are your go-to mama stores for fashion and home?
I have to say Zara. They have such amazing pieces at such affordable prices. I also love Shopbop, they carry all of my favourite brands.

What is your favourite holiday destination?
I have so many! I prefer to spend our holidays in Europe, especially Barcelona. It’s a huge favourite of mine.

Describe your parenting style in 3 words
Encouraging, relaxed, nurturing.

Do you capture your moments through a phone or a camera?
Most of my moments are captured through my Canon Rebel DSLR camera. I rarely leave home without it since it captures each moment flawlessly. I’m currently interested in a smaller piece that I can bring to the park, etc. I have my eye on the Sony Nex-7 mirrors camera.
