1 April – 13 July 2021
9am to 6pm
Got an ocean-loving kiddo at home? They’ll love The Sea Show, a free exhibition that teaches kids (and adults) all about the ocean. Designed by EYEYAH! and commissioned by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), this multimedia exhibition coincides with Singapore Maritime Week, and comprises art from 30 artists and illustrators from 13 different countries.
These artworks celebrate the ocean’s impact on travellers, explorers, ships and cargoes, while also detailing the various threats faced by the ocean and its marine life. There’s a special section of the exhibition featuring 23 artworks created by artists from Pathlight School’s Artist Development Programme.
The Sea Show is a maze-like journey, complemented by colourful art, animations and vibrant installations. At the entrance, you’ll walk through the hustle and bustle of a dockyard, where children will learn about marine-related professions through a “Where’s Wally”- style game. Then walk into an aquatic cinema with ocean-themed animations and a series of customised postcards that explore intriguing aquatic myths and superstitions.
Other highlights include an Insta-worthy Shark Café, which recreates a popular Great White shark migration point in a remote part of the Pacific Ocean, and a rubber duck installation – the latter was inspired by a 1992 shipping container incident where thousands of rubber ducks were lost at sea. Be sure to pick up your complimentary activity booklet so young visitors can find clues and answers to the various puzzles that are hidden within the exhibition. Visitors who successfully complete the activity booklet will be rewarded with a free copy of the Sea issue of EYEYAH!.
The Sea Show has a fun digital component, too! Check out its fun Augmented Reality filters – famous sea explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Zheng He are part of the collection – and a series of ocean-themed GIFs and stickers, which you can use in your social media posts.
