FREE glass of Prosecco? Check. Special seasonal Dough Balls? Roger that. Ho ho hurry to Pizza Express this festive season, mama!

Like your pizzas topped with truffles mama? Not that one ever needs a reason or even a special occasion when it comes to tucking into pizza, but Pizza Express at Scotts Square has just made the festive season a little more exciting – and sumptuous!

Just when the usual selection of Christmas goodies was getting a tad repetitive around town, Pizza Express have decided to forgo the usual turkey and chocolate log cake route, and stick to what they do best. Need I go further? If you haven’t had a chance since they arrived from London last July, now is the time!

Start off with Pizza Express’s iconic Dough Balls ($6 for 9 pieces), which are festively decked out with fruity cranberry chutney, black truffle dip and of course, garlic butter.

You’ll also find exclusive Christmas specials like sliced black truffle atop any pizza or pasta from the menu, for just an additional $4 on the regular price. Though you can choose to have absolutely any menu item, Pizza Express has also come up with offerings that best complement the heady truffle. Recommended thin crust 14” pizza selections include the Spinach Fiorentina ($16) with a soft-boiled egg and the creamy Carbonara ($25) with smoked bacon and Béchamel.

Vegetarians will love the Giardiniera ($18) bursting with assorted vegetables and pesto Genovese. Likewise, recommended pasta suggestions include the creamy Farfalle Funghi ($22) or the spicier Linguine Granchio con Panna with crabmeat and caviar ($27).

My personal favourite was the Carbonara with a soft boiled egg in the centre, because it’s rare to see this successfully pulled off in pizza form rather than pasta. And why go for a tomato base when you can indulge in an all-cheese and cream base? Just be warned – the pizzas are large enough for sharing, so make sure you leave room for dessert.

I heartily recommend special seasonal dessert options like dough balls covered in cinnamon sugar and served with a really wicked vanilla cream dip ($5). Honestly, that dip alone is totally worth the extra calories.

For something a little different than just brownies and cheesecake, get their warm (and very hearty) Mulled Winter Fruit Crumble ($10), which is a simple homemade fruit compote baked with a layer of crème Anglaise and finished off with a classic crumble crown. Seriously delish and so comforting — you will go on eating this one until the very last spoonful.

To sweeten the deal even further, order any of the featured mains with black truffles and any starter or dessert from the entire menu, and get a free glass of Prosecco (usually priced at $11). How can you enjoy the bubbly to the max? Did I mention that the kids get a colouring activity pack to keep them occupied while you down a glass or two? And they get to hang up their decorations on the little Christmas tree in the restaurant as soon as they’re done colouring them in.

And if that wasn’t enough, Pizza Express is also throwing in a 1-for-1 voucher for mains for the New Year for every special Christmas meal ordered within the month of December. We’re feeling jollier already!
