Looking for a central ladies lunch spot? Kid-friendly restaurant escape from Orchard shopping? Put PS.Cafe Palais Renaissance on your list
Homegrown Singapore brand PS.Cafe is a bit of an institution. With locations all over Singapore from their kid-friendly Harding Road branch to their latest opening PS.Cafe at Great World to PS Cafe by the Sea, the branch in the East that sent everyone wild with excitement. PS.Cafe Palais Renaissance is tucked away at the back of Palais Renaissance so you’d be forgiven for not knowing it was there – but we reckon this quiet spot on Orchard Road should be on your radar for a central ladies’ lunch or a kid-friendly café to escape the crowds.
The vibe
PS.Cafe gets the ambiance of each of their restaurants bang on. You’ll notice the striking black and white décor, a nod to the colonial black and white history of Singapore, and every establishment boasts lush floral arrangements that you can’t help be impressed with. At PS.Cafe Palais Renaissance there’s a terrace overlooking the Thai embassy gardens if you’re partial to alfresco style dining, but it’s the interiors with high vaulted ceilings and glass-to-ceiling windows that gives this PS.Cafe a grand feel.
Ladies’ Lunch on Orchard
Gather up the ladies and go for lunch. You’ll need a cocktail spritz before you can even look at the menu (Grapefruit & Ginger Spritz $21, would be our vote). The menu at PS.Cafe Palais Renaissance offers lighter dining options and salads plus upmarket street offerings, the likes of which are not available at other PS.Cafe branches. Don’t worry, they still do their famous sinful desserts and mega cakes but we will get to those later.
Mains span Western dishes as well as Asian. Pad Thai Salad ($26) is one of our favourite orders here – it’s a clever healthier version of the Thai classic dish but instead of white noodles it’s all vegetables topped with prawns and lip-smacking dressing. There’s also the Classic PS. Caesar Salad ($28) and the Superfood salad ($26) with lots of antioxidant ingredients from blueberries to broccoli and goji. Plus dishes like the much raved about Crab Tart ($32), Steak Frites ($39/$54) and the PS Burger ($29.50) with Wagyu & US beef.
Kids Meals at Palais Renaissance Orchard
For kids 12 years and below, PS.Cafe Palais Renaissance offers a special Junior menu and each dish comes with a bowl of ice cream with a choice of chocolate or strawberry sauce — what a treat!. For junior, there’s Spaghetti Bolognese ($14), Grilled Ham & Cheese Toasties with fries ($12) or a Cheeseburger and Fries ($14). PS.Cafe also provides child seats to be attached to existing chairs so little ones can eat safely at the table.
Brunch and Cakes
Come the weekend, the brunch menu beckons with generous servings of Salmon Benedict and the PS Big Breakfast alongside lunch/dinner favourites. PS.Cafe is known for their truffle fries ($16). The umami aromas of truffle oil waft occasional across the room as plates towering with golden shoestring fries dusted with parsley and parmesan are delivered to tables to share. If you’ve ordered a salad for lunch, it would be rude not to have fries alongside it.
Or save yourself for that cake we mentioned earlier. Pictured above is a slab of M’s Carrot Cake ($12.50) and the ultimate Fudgy Brownie ($16).
