7 Fun Family Travel Holidays for under $700 this Summer

TravelPost Category - TravelTravel - Post Category - By CountryBy Country

The kids are done with classes for the term, which means ‘Travel School’ is officially in session! Engaging with subjects like history, geography and culture doesn’t have to stop at the classroom door with many great ‘fun-ducational’ and alternative family travel getaways right on our doorstep.

For mamas doubling as the family travel agent, the team at KAYAK advise that the cheapest deals for flights in Asia are available one-and-a-half months prior to departure, so it pays to be organised.

We found the following alternative family holiday destinations, all for under S$700 per person:

KAYAK Travel 1

Georgetown, Malaysia

Georgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and beautiful, old city in Penang, is a great place to explore Peranakan culture. Get up close and personal with the Baba-Nyonya way of life by strolling through the Pinang Peranakan Mansion. Budding naturalists and mini master chefs will love the nearby Tropical Spice Garden, and kids of all ages will love riding the funicular tram to the top of nearby Penang Hill.

Flights to Penang plus two nights’ accommodation on average cost $489 per person.

KAYAK Travel 2

Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Sometimes what kids (including the grown up ones) need after a tough term is some time to unwind. White sand beaches, snorkelling and jungle trekking should do the trick! Now that direct flights from Singapore to Phu Quoc have launched, it’s never been easier to access all the natural beauty of this tropical Vietnamese island.

Flights to Phu Quoc plus two nights’ accommodation start from $615 per person.

KAYAK Travel 3

Yangon, Myanmar

For families keen to escape the well-trodden tourist trail, Myanmar is the ideal destination to discover history, architecture, religion and nature. The Shwedagon Pagoda, a massive bell-shaped golden stupa and the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, is a sight inquisitive little ones will never forget.

We found flights to Yangon plus two nights’ accommodation from $655 per person.

KAYAK Travel 4

Chennai, India

Families with a sense of adventure will love Tamil Nadu’s bustling capital city, which is chock-a-block with religious history, churches and temples. There is also a selection of beautiful beaches nearby. Reminiscent of neighbouring Sri Lanka, the South of India surprises many by just how easy it is to travel around with children.

Source flights to Chennai plus two nights’ accommodation from just $666 per person.

KAYAK Travel 5

Hanoi, Vietnam

Vietnam’s capital is steeped in history and culture. Keep the kids entertained at the Ethnology Museum where they can explore replicas of traditional ethnic houses. Kids also love Hanoi’s famous water puppet theatre shows, which recount Vietnamese folk legends.

Flights to Hanoi plus two nights’ accommodation on average can start from $620 per person.

KAYAK Travel 6

Vientiane, Laos

In recent years, Laos has become a family-friendly destination full of relaxing river excursions and exciting adventure activities. Laos’ capital, Vientiane, is a relaxing retreat for families and its small town feel is perfect for family walks and bike rides. Older kids will enjoy exploring a bit more with jungle trekking, kayaking, zip-lining or climbing adventures in nearby Vang Vieng.

Find flights to Vientiane plus two nights’ accommodation from $695 per person.

KAYAK Travel 7

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok isn’t always the first choice that comes to mind when planning a family holiday but the vibrant capital city is home to some top attractions for kids. Spend a morning visiting SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World, one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia, or take a boat ride down the Chao Phraya River and its many canals. The Ancient City, which is just a 45-minute drive out of the capital, takes you to another world where kids can explore vast temples.

Flights to Bangkok plus two nights’ accommodation can start from just S$523.
