Donate your pre-loved jewellery or purchase handmade bracelets to benefit the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations and victims of domestic abuse

If you’re the type to thrift shop, you might have heard of the New2U Thrift Shop by Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO). Nestled in a little corner on Waterloo Street, it was the go-to place for me during my polytechnic days (they have a fab ‘half-price Tuesdays’ promo for students) for great secondhand threads and the occasional vintage gem. Now you can mark it in your mental list of places to shop as a place for beautiful pre-loved jewelleryand for a good cause.

Re-Embrace Charity Drive is a collaboration between local boutique Embrace Jewellery and SCWO, which seeks to collect donated pre-loved jewellery pieces for sale at the New2U Thrift Shop Bazaar with all proceeds going to the Star Shelter and other SCWO initiatives. The Star Shelter provides a temporary refuge for women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence. Apart from providing meals and lodging, Star Shelter also provides Trauma/Crisis counselling, Case Management, financial aid and no-interest home loans to these victims of family violence.

If you don’t have any suitable costume jewellery or accessories but still want to contribute, mama, consider purchasing handmade bracelets by women from Star Shelter. Made with waxed cotton threads and beads, the bracelets are priced at $25 each and are available in brown, black and blue. Each bracelet also comes with a card insert, which states the special meaning behind each charm attached to it. Produced in very limited quantities, the one-of-a-kind bracelets are available for purchase at Embrace Jewellery stockists, Kai Life and Embrace+.

Going on from now till 8 May 2018, here’s how you can re-embrace your preloved jewellery and donate it to contribute to the cause, mama:

  1. Sift out the costume jewellery that you no longer use. Jewellery must be in good condition and shouldn’t have any scratches, chips or tarnishing.
