Come to the Sassy Pregnancy Club’s next pregnancy coffee morning to get expert advice on all things fitness and nutrition

To all the pregnant mamas out there, we hope you had a fab summer! We’re so excited to kick off another season of our popular pregnancy coffee mornings with the fab folks at Stork’s Nest Singapore, a wonderful and supportive online community of parenting resources. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, 24 August at Camden Medical Centre, mamas!

As ever, this event is a chance to hear from pregnancy experts and mingle with other pregnant mamas in a fun and relaxed setting. This time around we’ll be talking all things wellness, including nutrition, fitness and osteopathy. You can look forward to engaging talks from the following experts:

dr cheryl kamDr. Cheryl Kam will speak on nutrition in pregnancy, including

  • What’s safe to eat, and what isn’t? (Really!)
  • Common Prenatal and Postnatal nutrient deficiencies
  • Infectious diseases to be aware of during pregnancy
  • Keeping your skin healthy (including how to avoid stretch marks and prevent tearing)

A regular contributor to Sassy Mama (check out her latest article on Zika Virus!), Dr. Kam is herself currently pregnant for the first time! She’s an experienced family physician with over a decade’s worth of clinical experience in the UK and Singapore, and particularly enjoys working with women and children.

charlotte-manning-osteopathicCharlotte Manning of The Osteopathic Centre will speak on osteopathy for mamas and babies

Charlotte is a Canadian with a sports background who joined the Osteopathic Centre with a particular interest in helping women deal with the unique aches and pains that come along with pregnancy. She’ll highlight how osteopathy can help a mama-to-be deal with the various muscular-skeletal changes the body undergoes during pregnancy. She’ll also give tips on how new mamas can adjust to life with baby – osteopathy can work wonders with new bubs!

sam-blakey-ooberfitSam Blakey of Ooberfit will discuss the importance of exercise during pregnancy

A certified personal trainer and the founder of award-winning fitness company Ooberfit, Sam is a mama of five and a recognised postnatal fitness expert with a passion for educating mamas about diastasis recti. In fact, she’s the only person in Singapore qualified as a Hyporessives trainer, a ground-breaking, low-pressure breathing program with proven success in closing abdominal gaps! Sam will cover the following topics:

  • Why should we exercise when pregnant? What’s safe and what’s not?
  • Diastasis Recti: What causes it, what you can do about it, what forms of exercise are okay after baby, and when can you return to old favourites?
  • Sit-ups, Crunches, Planks, Kettle Bells and the Whole Shebang: Why ‘Cleared by your doctor to go back to exercise’ doesn’t mean what you think it does!

In addition to our enlightening speakers, we’ll also have a whole host of mama-friendly resources on site. The lovely ladies from Littleones Photography will be there to capture your bump in all its glory, with all photos kindly available free of charge after the event on our Facebook page. They’ve also got a special offer for Sassy Mamas: book a maternity shoot with them and you’ll receive a free newborn shoot!

We’ll also have lots of yummy snacks from The Whole Kitchen, which was a massive hit at our last Mama Meet Up (those hungry kiddos cleaned her out!). You’ll get to enjoy a complimentary selection of Energy Pearls, Granola Cups with fruit and yogurt, and the new Banana Vanilla Bean Loaf, all of which is gluten-free, refined sugar-free, low in sugar, nutritious, wholesome, free of additives and preservatives and – oh yeah – SUPER delicious!

Red miller

What’s more, birth consultant and midwife (and Sassy Mama contributor) Red Miller of Loved Based Birth will be there to tell you more about how you can have the happy, loving pregnancy and birth journey that YOU want to have. The Osteopathic Centre will have a table to give you more info on their three convenient locations and physiological conditions commonly seen in mamas and babies (including sleep issues, tongue tie, constipation, flat head syndrome and more).

Want to commemorate your pregnancy in a totally unique way that’ll someday wow your little one? Find out more from Amooo’s — an original, which focuses on creating ceramic wares like BellyPotsTM and baby prints platters with high quality materials that are lead and toxins-free, and microwave and dishwasher-safe. Finally, St. James’s Place Wealth Management will be on hand to get you sorted on the matter of wills and guardianship – a must when living in Singapore – along with other handy advice on life insurance, savings and investments.
