Get ready for some major children’s theatre fun! The Act3i Festival for Children will present six international plays for babies and children over school holidays

Calling all budding theatre lovers! Act 3 International’s popular Act3i Festival for Children returns this year with six original theatre performances and three workshops for babies and kids! Look out for daily fun running from RIGHT NOW through 3 June.

Featuring baby and toddler-friendly works from England, Italy, Lithuania, Scotland and Singapore, the festival’s mission is to share the importance of theatre and the arts as a key contributor to early years developmental growth. Get ready to ignite little ones’ imaginations and curiosity, mamas!

The festival kicks off with Paperbelle, a play presented by Scotland’s Frozen Charlotte Theatre group. A festival favourite that’s delighted children and adults all over the world, the enchanting theatre performance encourages exploration through colour in a magical world of paper. (For ages 2 to 5, runs 22 – 27 May)

Keen for some parent-child fun in the sand? Get ready to enter a world of buckets, castle-building, spinning, and tumbling with Circles in the Sand, from England’s Tam Tam Theatre. Perfect for babies and toddlers, the highly tactile show has no words but speaks volumes with an atmospheric soundtrack and world music! (For ages 0 to 3, runs 22 – 25 May)

Next up is Leaf, also from Tam Tam Theatre. This immersive and playful piece for babies on up encourages curiosity and engagement amidst an environment of evocative soundscapes and gorgeous colours. At the end little ones are even invited to play among the leaves and explore a landscape created by the changing seasons. (For ages 0 to 3, runs 29 May – 3 June)

If your littlies love puppets, be sure to head to Crikecrak from Italy’s La Baracca – Testoni Ragazzi. Founder Roberto Frabetti will use beautiful two-dimensional puppets to transform a simple story into one that teaches children about fear…and that it’s perfectly ok to be afraid! (For ages 1 to 3, runs 29 May – 3 June)

In an original collaboration between La Baracca – Testoni Ragazzi and ACT 3 International, the play Archipelago utilises both verbal and non-verbal communication, along with an emphasis on the intimate connection between actor and audience, to engage children as they explore the symbolism of islands in an archipelago. Cast members include some of the seasoned drama instructors from ACT 3 Drama Academy! (For ages 2 to 5, runs 22 – 25 May)

Finally, Lithuania’s Dansema Dance Theatre will present Colourful Games, an interactive performance that invites young audience members to explore the world around them with the help of a dancer. This beautifully crafted journey of self-discovery and wonder won the Golden Stage Cross for ‘Best Performance of the Year’ in 2015! (For ages 0 to 3, runs 29 May – 3 June)

Plus Three Parent + Child Workshops

If you’re not sure your baby can make it through a show but you want to introduce the to the magic of theatre, the festival will also be offering three different daily workshops offered on various dates. Grow, Garden, Grow (for 7 to 17 months) intertwines storytelling with drama activities and exercises; a workshop from Tam Tam Theatre, for 0 to 3-year-olds, will encourage imagination and role play; and a workshop rom Dansema Dance Theatre will introduce little ones to movement and co-ordination through visual and audio stimuli. It’s for 8 to 14-month-olds; who says you need to be able to walk in order to dance?!
