Here’s how you can catch some of the highly anticipated National Day Parade action early!

It may still be early, but we’re already feeling the FOMO of the National Day celebrations every time we pass the Civic District (or hear planes fly overhead on a Saturday night)! Yes, the National Day Parade (NDP) 2019 rehearsals and firework displays have already begun in preparation for National Day on 9 August celebrating Singapore’s 54th birthday!

If you didn’t manage to get tickets in the ballot or if you’re just excited like us and can’t wait for the action, you can catch the fun early. Unlike recent years, this year’s parade will take place at the Padang (opposite the National Gallery) in conjunction with the Bicentennial celebrations, which marks 200 years since Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in Singapore in 1819.

The NDP 2019 will be shown on all Mediacorp free-to-air channels on 9 August 2019. If you’d like to catch the happenings for yourself, check out our handy list below of all the full dress rehearsal dates and timings for the parade’s top highlights!

NDP 2019 Highlights

Theme
“Our Singapore” commemorates our Singapore bicentennial and allows us to tell Our Singapore story from past to present. “Our” emphasises the collective ownership of Singapore. We are living the dreams of our pioneers, and we are now the pioneers of our future.

Parade & Ceremony
A new segment, “Our Bicentennial”, will feature eight floats kicking off the parade. Organisations such as Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, an early port operator, Singapore Post Office and Singapore General Hospital will be part of the prologue, with many more participating (deets coming soon!).

There will also be a mobile column featuring 171 platforms from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Home Team. The mobile column will feature military vehicles, tanks and the like, and make its way down St Andrew’s Road between the Padang and the National Gallery Singapore during the parade.

Flypast & Aerial Display
Other faves to keep an eye out for include the traditional state flag flypast, with a Chinook helicopter carrying the Singapore flag, supported by two escorting Apache helicopters. A new addition to the exciting aerial display will be the debut of the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) A330 Tanker Transport aircraft accompanied by two F-15SG fighter jets.

Show
With ethnic dances showing Singapore’s rich multicultural heritage, a touching film on the stories of various Singaporeans, and performances featuring over 900 students from local schools, there will be so much to see during this exciting part of the parade! The final act will conclude with a performance of the theme song, the pledge and the national anthem.

Fireworks
The best part! Look forward to the fireworks display at Marina Bay and the Singapore River towards the end of the parade. Fireworks will set off at every rehearsal, but the biggest displays will be on NDP Preview 2 (3 August) and the NDP (9 August). Check out the best spots to see them here.

NDP in the Heartlands

This year, NDP will bring the mobile column to five heartland sites on 10 August 2019 (the day after the parade). The mobile column will be travelling to Bishan, Geylang Serai, Jurong East, Punggol and Woodlands, where there will also be carnivals organised by the People’s Association. The one-day celebrations will end with dazzling fireworks displays at each of the five sites!
