A curriculum where children are actively involved and listened to

Educators at Blue House work with each child to support them on their learning journey – there is an emphasis on listening to each child, guiding them and supporting them as they collaborate with them. In this way, the emergent curriculum is not set in stone but directed by your child’s interests.

Blue House views your child as competent, so materials such as wire and realistic tools such as drills which are often viewed as out of bounds for little ones – are not off-limits but are actively embraced. Children are given lots of open-ended materials and thought-provoking activities to fuel their curiosity and express themselves. In this way, children develop a deeper understanding and connection about their enquiries than a pre-determined curriculum might allow. Children are empowered to challenge and exchange ideas with the educators, their peers and their parents who are actively encouraged to be involved in their child’s learning journey. When children know they are respected and their opinions and thoughts matter, their confidence grows and they develop a strong sense of self.

Outdoor learning at Blue House

The educators at Blue House are passionate about the environment and the important role it plays in inspiring the curriculum, so much so that they refer to it as ‘the third teacher’. Spaces at Blue House are designed to encourage encounters, communication, and relationships. Children have access to the indoor and outdoor Atelier and Piazzas within the school and are often invited to explore the lush, green surrounds on nature walks.
