Roll up, roll up, mamas! The unmissable British Council English courses will be launching a new term soon, and you can find out more at their Open House events! It’s the perfect opportunity to discover the wide variety of options available to students from Nursery 2 all the way up through Secondary 5 (Junior College).

We all want our children to be confident in their literacy skills, and we all remember how special their first words were, or the first time they read us one of their own bedtime books. That spirit is echoed in the British Council’s mission to spread English while sparking a love of reading and writing that will stick with our littlies as they grow.

The Open Houses help parents find out more about how the British Council can nurture children’s minds and maintain the highest standards of both British and Singaporean education. After all, their courses are based on MOE’s learning outcomes to ensure students get a solid foundation in English. The British Council even helps the Singapore government train their English teachers!

Sit in on a class to see how British Council methodology empowers children to become confident young adults who relish their individuality. In this holistic environment, your child’s EQ, IQ and CQ are at the core of British Council teaching and learning. Independent thinking and positive reinforcement are the watchwords here, ensuring happy and well-rounded youngsters.

All us mamas remember how tough exam preparation can be, but the British Council helps with study strategies that will see their charges sail through fret-free. Media literacy coaching will keep them at the sharp end of 21st century learning, though knowing their skills with our phones, we sometimes worry the cherubs are already outstripping our networking know-how!

You’ll also have a chance to meet senior educators and chat to them about your syllabus stresses. Parent workshops include early literacy skills, PSLE skills and a general Q and A session with the Head of Primary (available only at the Marsiling Centre). Guest of honour at the Open House events will be Noreen Boyle, who specialises in training early years educators to get the best out of children with extra learning needs.

The British Council will make sure the youngest generation (and maybe some of you more creative mamas) can have fun, too with balloon modelling and face-painting! That said, we challenge you to have a serious conversation about your little one’s future with a balloon giraffe by your side and a face like a tiger…

Sign up at an Open House event and enjoy a generous $100 discount (on top of existing discounts available) and a free welcome pack. Mamas signing up for the full year have a chance to win a pair of return tickets to fabulous London – just the place for a break once any exams are out of the way.

Places are limited and will be going like hot kaya buns from the bakery counter, so snap one up and enjoy your day, mamas!

The Tampines Centre event takes place on November 29, the Toa Payoh event on November 30, the Napier Road get-together on December 6, and the Marsiling open house on December 7. Trial classes range from nursery right through to secondary.
