Want to do some good this Christmas? LOVE, NILS is a charity that supports families with kids who are suffering from cancer. Here’s how you can help by joining their virtual fundraiser on 5 December

If the unthinkable happened and your child was diagnosed with cancer, how would you respond? This is a story about a mama who dealt with the tragic loss of her own son, but used her grief and pain to help other families in Singapore dealing with childhood cancer. LOVE, NILS is a Singapore-registered charity that provides children suffering from cancer and their caregivers with healthcare guidance, emotional care, and social and community support. Lesli Berggren, an American mother who has been living in Singapore since 1998, founded LOVE, NILS in 2017, after her 14-year-old son very sadly lost his battle with cancer.

Lesli Berggren’s son, Nils, was diagnosed with a rare form of stage 4 lymphoma when he was 13 years old. Lesli spent the next 18 months caring for her Nils as he received medical treatment both in Singapore and the United States. Miraculously, Nils beat cancer following treatment at Singapore’s National University Hospital. However, a few months later, complications arising from a stem cell transplant tragically led to his passing. Lesli lost her son and her 14-year-old daughter had lost her twin brother. Throughout his battle, Nils maintained his positivity and fighting spirit. He spent time writing letters to family and friends asking for prayers and strength. He always signed off as “Love, Nils.” Today, LOVE, NILS stands to embody the hope he showed, supporting other children and their families as they navigate their treatment process. Led by Lesli, the team work tirelessly to be a beacon of hope and resilience for paediatric cancer patients and their caregivers in Singapore.

What can you do to help LOVE, NILS charity?

LOVE, NILS is hosting its annual fundraiser event virtually this year. The Superhero-themed occasion is a staple in the LOVE, NILS calendar; the concept was designed to allow everyone to be a hero for the day by supporting a worthy cause, all whilst having fun. Priced at $100, each ticket includes a goodie bag, complete with a superhero eye mask or cape, complimentary voucher for a Little Caesars Pizza, and login details to the virtual soiree. Whilst the LOVE, NILS team are disappointed not to be able to celebrate their heroes in person, this will be a fun-filled, virtual celebration with superhero guests, a live auction, quiz, and much more.

Ticket holders get to bid on a range of exclusive auction prizes (check them out here), kindly donated for the occasion. Prizes include a 2N stay at the luxurious Capella Singapore or Marina Bay Sands, a dining experience at Spago, 2-day rental of a Harley-Davidson, and much more.

How does LOVE, NILS help children battling cancer?

Following the onslaught of the pandemic, the already severely suppressed immune systems cannot risk coming into contact with COVID-19, and as such, all of the community support, visitors, and activities that were previously on offer to help them maintain some sense of normality have been cut off from them. The LOVE, NILS community has worked tirelessly to adapt their programmes to ensure that they can continue to support these children as much as possible, and the Fundraiser will help them to continue this incredible work.

All proceeds from the benefit will go directly towards this cause – so grab some friends and buy tickets to this fun fundraiser or if you can’t make it, then why not donate?
