We can never get enough indoor play in Singapore, which is why we were psyched to check out the new Mosh! edutainment centre on Sentosa.
Ever wanted to design your own cartoon animation creature and see them on the screen? Well now you can at Mosh!, a brand new kids’ edutainment centre at Palawan Kidz City, Sentosa. Mosh! is a new Japanese digital technology edutainment* concept aimed at kids.
Mosh! has taken up digs on level 3 of the Kidzania building on Sentosa (look for the Qatar Airways Boeing sticking its nose out of the building). At Mosh! there are five stations to explore inside one big undivided room set up with mini chairs and tables, colouring stations with projected digital scenes on most of the walls.
Fireworks Party
The idea here is to get your kids jumping and burning off some energy indoors. Each movement activates sensors and creates fireworks displays on the screen (when we went this display was undergoing some improvements).
Doodle Aquarium
Hands down the most fun: you can basically design your own creature, mermaid, Octonaut, whatever, then colour it in and launch it into the digital aquarium on the wall by way of a scanner. My 4-year-old loved the creative side of designing his own creature with the Japanese soft crayons, as well as the technology side of scanning his design in to launch it into the aquarium. I must admit I was hooked on this station, too – there is something quite satisfying about seeing your own creation come alive. Once in the aquarium your creature moves about on its own – it would be great if there were a way of controlling their movement using sensors…
Hide & Seek Station
A low round table where kids can beckon digital creatures and then smash them with their hands to make them disappear – popular with the littlies.
World Of Wonder
Similar to the Doodle Aquarium but aimed at younger kids. Munchkins can colour in pre-designed creatures and launch them into the digital background using a scanner.
Paper Plane Adventure
Crew will help you make a paper airplane – an essential skill for any kid so I was happy to get a reminder on this! Then kids launch their airplanes at the digital screen. Once the planes hit the wall, an animated version of the airplane appears and flies across the screen – this was a big hit!
We were told this edutainment centre is aimed at 3 to 12-year-olds but perhaps it is best suited to 4 to 6-year-olds (and the odd creative parent). It doesn’t come cheap, however, and we are always slightly miffed at having to pay adult prices to accompany our kids on their adventures. That said, Mosh! makes for a fun hour or two of indoor play and is an interesting introduction to the world of animation and digital technology.
Cost: Adults, $28; 3 to 12-year-olds, $22; Under 3s, FREE
Practicalities:
- Strollers are not allowed inside.
- No water and snacks inside but there is a café opening in March
- To get there, park at Beach Car Park and then follow signs to Palawan Beach. Mosh! Is located inside the Kidzania building at Level 3.
- Opening Hours: 10am – 9pm Daily
- There is a 2-hour time limit on public holidays and weekends
*Edutainment mixes entertainment with education (see what they did there?). You’ll be seeing a lot more edutainment centres opening soon; look out for the BIG one – Kidzania – opening in April!
