It’s springtime and we’re in the mood to spruce up the house a little bit, so we’re charting a course for the Affordable Art Fair this weekend to liven up our walls. With over 70 showcasing galleries filling up the F1 Pit Building, we’re sure you’ll find something you’re going to fall in love with. It won’t be at such a hefty price either – these awesome contemporary masterpieces start as low as $100, with three quarters of everything on the walls available for under $7, 500. Did we mention that they’ve set up loads of activities for families as well? Score!
Created to combat the stereotype that art is horribly intimidating and insanely priced, the AAF offers free tours to help you delve deeper as well as get involved at interactive art studios. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a newbie to the art scene like us, there’s loads to see and do. Thankfully this applies to families as well (woohoo!), and the teams over at the Affordable Art Fair and their partner Playeum have whipped up exciting activities that’ll please your mini Andy and Andrea Warhols.
You’ll be able to get creative with the kiddos at the Elephant Parade Creative Workshops, inspired by Diana Francis’ life-sized elephant sketch all in the name of elephant conservation. On your way in, you’ll bump into a literal pink elephant in the room (psst, Instagram it and you might win an Elephant Parade Art Box!), but the real fun comes with the family workshops held daily where you’ll be able to make 2D or 3D mini versions together. The 2D sessions run all day but the 3D ones will require a bit of forward planning with sessions held on Friday at 12:30 – 2pm and 7 – 8:30pm; Saturday at 12:30 – 2pm and 5 – 6:30pm; Sunday at 12:30 – 2pm and 3 – 4:30pm.
If you’re keen on taking a little look around but not so keen on dragging the kiddos kicking and screaming through the fair, there’s a Children’s Art Studio run by Playeum perfect for little Picassos. Run by their experienced team and ceramic wizard Madhvi Subrahmaniam, the theme revolves around ‘Our Home in the Rainforest’ with a number of awesome clay-play activities that’ll have them grinning as you search for your next centerpiece.
Sneaking off for a date with your partner in crime or with your gal pals? Why not make the day extra fun with a bit of social lubricant over at the dedicated wine bar by 1855, The Bottle Shop – because after all, what’s an art event without a bit of vino?
Interested? Well the awesome thing is that you won’t have to pay for entry if you’re subscribed to our mailing list, mama. We’ve managed to snag you all free passes for Friday! Just download it and all you’ll have to do is flash it at the ushers to get access. Now you have absolutely no reason not to go!
