Founded in the 1970s, Just Anthony is a purveyor of Chinese antique furniture and accessories in Singapore. Their amazing showroom has flourished as one of the must-visit destinations for Chinese antique pieces and reproductions on the island, focusing on finding unusual old furniture – big and small – and ensuring the original patina (the process of decolourisation) is kept wherever possible. Founders Pamela Ting and Jessica Wong have always been intrigued by the history and culture of Shanghai and were thus triggered to design modern Asian furniture. If you’re looking to balance the IKEA toy storage units with something a bit more classic, head to Singapore Trading Post. Their stunning one-of-a-kind vintage pieces are inspired by Singapore’s history with the East India Trading Company and are sourced from old trading ports in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar. A veritable treasure trove of goodies, shop here for bedding, collectables, lighting, furniture, antiques, rugs, cushions and small keepsakes. Be warned, it’s a bit tricky to find (head to the back of the building and take the service elevator), but once you’re there, it’s totally worth it for a fab selection of quality furny (including lots of Chinese antiques) at pretty reasonable prices, sourced by the expat owners. They even have a kiddies corner full of all sorts of games and toys to keep the little ones occupied while you shop all three levels. Snap something up as soon as you see it because it probably won’t be there next time – this stuff goes quick! Call ahead to make sure they’re open as they sometimes close at funny times.
