Not only do kids learn self-defence to protect themselves from potential bullies, but they learn mental discipline and persistence. Scroll to find out how you can book a free Evolve Mixed Martial Arts’ trial class for your child!

Mum of two, Tze Wei’s son joined Evolve Mixed Martial Arts‘ (Evolve MMA) programme for kids when she was looking for a safe space for her active 3.5-year-old to expend his energy. Little did she know that this would be one of the best parenting decisions ever. As one of the world’s leading Martial Arts organisations in Asia with a team of World Champion instructors, the experienced instructors at Evolve MMA not only taught her sons (now 8 and 6) essential self-defence skills but also helped them develop confidence to stand up to bullies and patiently fight through any other obstacles in life.

Evolve MMA’s Little Samurai Children’s Programme uses martial arts to help improve a child’s coordination, motor skills, physical strength and agility. As Professor Valdir shares, “The kids’ programme teaches kids the basics of Jiu-Jitsu. It is taught in a fun way which engages the kids and allows them to push beyond their limits.”

Their programme sets the foundation for an active lifestyle in kids while equipping them with self-defence techniques that can come in handy if they come across any bullies at school. Not only do kids learn a new sport and enjoy cardiovascular conditioning at Evolve MMA, they will also gain mental strength that they can use to control their emotions and be better focused. As they strategise how to defeat their opponent, they will also develop essential problem-solving skills that they can apply to every area of life.

When we asked Tze Wei’s son about how learning martial arts at Evolve MMA has helped him in life, he said, “I’m not afraid of bullies. I can choose to ignore them and control myself when they disturb us….I also learned to be confident and protect weaker friends who get bullied.”

For Professor Valdir, the most rewarding part of teaching Evolve MMA’s Children’s Programme is “to be able to see how they become stronger and more confident and to see the kids overcome their fears and step out of their comfort zone.”

Thanks to Evolve MMA’s team of experienced martial arts world champions, kids will get to learn from the best of the best, who will equip their young fighters with the tools and skillset to stand their ground and persevere through every challenge they face. The rigour of training and the ‘get up and try again’ attitude modelled by teachers helps them learn that hard work and consistency pay off and if you keep trying you will eventually succeed.

Mum Tze Wei shares,“Evolve has taught my kids the value of team spirit, patience in mastering their skills, empathy to comfort each other during competitions and perseverance to stand up when they fall.”

If you’re still wondering if you should give this a shot, here’s Professor Valdir’s advice, “Just enrol your kids into martial arts, because when they are learning martial arts, you are preparing your kids to become an adult who is ready to face anything in life.”

While the Singapore education system places a strong emphasis on hard skills, it’s important for children to learn soft skills that will prepare them for the future. Not only does Evolve MMA’s Children’s programme train your child to be physically tough, but it also gives them the opportunity to nurture their mental strength through perseverance, resilience and persistence, essential life skills that will help them confidently face future challenges head-on.
