Outdoor clothing doesn’t have to be drab, mamas! The stylish mamas Ms Yin and Ms Yang show you how to still look fab, even when you have to go outside and play
Are you a mama who still wants to look stylish even in the face of, well, being a mom? Do you want to know more about fab local designers and brands? We’ve teamed up with fashion bloggers (and Singapore mamas) Ms Yin/Ms Yang to bring you a monthly dose of fun and practical fashion tips that are equally perfect for fashionista mamas or mamas who are just happy to be out of their gym clothes or flip-flops. You can read more here about their column.
When you live in Singapore the thought of going outside is sometimes far more enticing than actually going outside. But what happens when you really do have to spend time in the heat and actually get down and play with the kids?
You need something to help you stay cool, but also something that you can move and roll around. in In any other city your answer may be jeans or leggings, but not here! So what do you wear for playtime with the littles? Here are my top picks (please disregard the high heels in these photos… no kids were present at the time of these shoots)!
Shorts and a top are my obvious go-to here, but instead of going with the tried and true jorts-and-tank option, mix it up and go for something a bit more on trend. While shopping, keep a lookout for coordinating sets which will take your whole look up a level. HK label Christing C. makes some great options, as does SG label Akosee and Bali brand Innika Choo. I especially love that Innika Choo also makes sets for babe to match yours, and they are free size so they will fit your little one for years to come!
Want an outfit that requires zero thought? Go for a romper and you are ready in a blink! We love IndiiBreeze based right here in the SG for this, as their onesies fit nearly every size and are wonderfully printed( hiding sweat and grass stains and sticky fingerprints with ease). We guess that’s what founder Samantha Windebank had in mind as she has twins of her own to chase!
Another label to love is Maisha Concept, which hails from HK. The rompers have cool details like open backs and wrap tops and mix and match prints, making you look like you made an effort even though you can basically get dressed with your eyes closed. Best of all, this is a sustainable brand and is also ethically produced so everyone wins.
When having to get down and dirty try a pair of printed pants. Local label Matter Prints boasts a range of heritage printed pants and also offers matching tops, onesies, and clutches in case you want to double down on the pattern (see how I’m trying to get you to wear coordinates again?!). Pants also work great when you need to climb through a play palace with the kiddos and they insist you go down the slide too. They protect the knees and keep you from flashing other moms who may be climbing the same jungle-themed mountain. IndiiBreeze is also a winner here for a chic relaxed fit pant, and check out their simple sandals to pair with all these prints.
Now you are all set to hit the heat and roll around with your babes. Whether you are in the park, at an indoor play place, at a trampoline jump-fest, or just running around the playground you have a stylish look that is practical too! Fashion and function is my favorite duo, after all.
An on that note here is a bonus tip: Go for a belt bag! Hands-free, on trend, and fabulously practical! Never worry about where you set your stuff again and they are awesome for amusement parks and airplane rides too. Go get ‘em mama! You got this!
