sur_dcgWith Singapore life as busy as it is, a few of my gal pals were on a mission to finally gather together for a catch-up dinner — finally, a girl’s night out! Since I pride myself on finding the latest and greatest new restaurants in town I had dialled in on Sur, a Nuevo Latino Kitchen, which opened right at the end of 2012 – perfect! Located just behind Boat Quay in an area that’s seeing a lot of trendy openings at the moment, it was an easy spot for those coming straight from the office.

Sur has a small, cosy open kitchen restaurant and a great long bar (that has hooks for your handbag!) with beautiful hand-painted Hispanic tiles on the table tops. A few of us kicked off the evening with scrumptious cocktails while we waited for the fashionably late. This included a “Silver Smash” for the tequila lover and the “Amado Mio”, a gin and pomegranate concoction that I now want to make for a future drinks party at home! The vibe is fun and buzzing, as the small space gives an intimate feel, as if you’ve stumbled upon a secret.

We ordered a handful of delicious small plates to start, which unfortunately did take a bit of time to reach the table, but the kitchen sent us an amazing Roasted Beet Salad on the “casa” to pass the time. Out of the small plates, you must not miss the “Arepitas” – yummy little corn cakes stuffed with various fillings. The table favourites from the mina courses were “Causa” a chicken avocado salad and the “Plato Parrilla” a mixed plate of skirt steak, lamb chop, chicken and sausages. The partners behind Sur; Alejandro Luna and Chef Vitelio Reyes, were kind enough to bring us a plate of delicious sweets to finish off dinner and introduce themselves. They definitely achieved the Mi Casa, Su Casa feel at Sur. All around a place that deserves a repeat visit!

Pssst… We hear that Sur has recently introduced a kid’s brunch at the weekends, so if you try it out with the kiddos, let us know how it is!
