There’s no going out for brunch or spa treatments this year, but there are still plenty of ways to celebrate mamas at home for Mother’s Day 2020 in Singapore. Check out our gift guide for inspiration!
Mother’s Day 2020 falls on Sunday, May 10 this year, and it promises to look quite different from any other Mother’s Day we’ve seen before. Forget going out for brunch or indulging with a nice spa treatment – thanks to the Circuit Breaker you’ll have to stay home, mama. But that doesn’t mean your fam can’t still treat you like a queen! From breakfast in bed to flowers and cocktails – not to mention the spectacularly simple but effective gift of free time – check out our guide to Mother’s Day gift inspiration!
At-home Spa Day
True, mama can’t bliss out with a high-tech facial or a 3-hour body scrub + massage this year (although plenty of spas are surely still open for gift cards!), but why not put little hands to work and create a one-off home spa?
Hit up Sephora to source face masks and nail polish for mani-pedis. Check out some blogs for refreshing foot soaks and flower baths. If you’re really feeling bold maybe the kiddos can set up an at-home hair salon and wash your hair in the sink. And surely tiny hands and fingers can work some massage magic, right?
A Post-Circuit Breaker Family Photo Shoot
If nothing else, we think 2020 will go down as a truly memorable year in every family’s history. Once we get out of the Circuit Breaker – whenever that may be – why not commemorate this truly singular moment in time with a Mother’s Day photo shoot from White Room Studio? They’re one of our fave family photographers in Singapore, with a chic 2-store shophouse studio in River Valley that’s infused with natural light and rustic character. Or make the most of your newfound freedom and take mama for an outdoor family photoshoot! See some tips here on how to prepare mama and the fam for the shoot so you can look your absolute best.
During this CB period, a personalised gift certificate will be sent to mama electronically. Now is the best time to book dates for post-CB shoots in 2020. Family Studio Portraiture E-Gift Certificates start from $410 including a 1.5-hour shoot in the studio for up to 4 pax. Outdoor Family Shoots start from $560. For more details, contact White Room Studio at the link below.

The Gift of Peace and Quiet
It’s kind of ironic, but one of our favourite Mother’s Day rituals is being able to sleep in. Or spend the day quietly reading a book without interruption, or enjoy a cup of coffee without it going cold from neglect, or binge our favourite show without battling over the remote.
Don’t get us wrong, we love our kids and adore spending time with them (most of the time). But having them recognize our superhuman efforts and giving us the gift of peace and quiet, a rare chance to inhale deeply and dedicate a few solid hours to self-care, is pretty darn nice. Of course, it should also happen more than once a damn year, but that’s another story…
Gifts for the Home
We’re all spending a whole lot more time at home — might as well make it as pretty and comfortable as possible! We love the curated selection of well-priced, locally-made gifts from Singapore Trading Post. Among our top picks: hand-finished, shell-and-bone palm coasters at $85 (perfect for some freshly delivered cocktails — see below!); a gorgeous turquoise jewellery or gift box at $65; and a handsome wooden game board (perfect for all those extra family game nights!) at $75.
Breakfast in Bed or Brunch
Kids and adults alike have been baking up a storm during the circuit breaker; why not put those newfound skills to good use and treat mama to breakfast in bed (or even better, a quiet, undisturbed breakfast on the balcony) for Mother’s Day in Singapore? If you need more inspo, check out these five fun pancake recipes, or source delectable pastries from one of Singapore’s best bakeries. Throw in some fresh-squeezed juice, a hot cup of coffee, or a healthy smoothie and we bet mama’ll be pleased as punch.
Psst! Check out our guide to online grocery stores to make sure you source your ingredients in plenty of time!
When in doubt, say it with Flowers
Throughout the circuit breaker so far, we’ve found that home flower delivery has been a total pick-me-up. It’s such a nice reminder that life continues to grow and change and blossom. Check out our guide to the top florists in Singapore – many of whom have special promo codes just for Sassy Mama readers – for some major floral inspiration to add some beauty to mama’s Mother’s Day. (Or even consider a monthly flower subscription!) Just be sure to get your orders in early! One of our absolute faves is Flower Addict (pictured above), which is still delivering over the Circuit Breaker period. Use promo code SASSYBLOOMS to take $10 off your order!
At-Home Activewear and Fitness Equipment
With all the at-home exercise we’ve been doing, we’ve been getting a whole lot sweatier than we used to. If mama’s the sporty sort, it’s the perfect time to refresh her activewear stock. Check out our guide to local activewear brands for our top picks! And we hear that after some initial delays, good old Decathlon is back on track with sports equipment delivery if mama could use a jump rope, some weights, an exercise mat, or anything else you can think of!
Up Your Loungewear Game
It can’t be just us that have been spending more time in our pajamas or breezy kaftans while staying home, right? Why not treat mama to some nice loungewear for riding out the next month (or more) of the Circuit Breaker? Some of our top picks (also a great way to support local businesses):
- Silk loungewear from Susy + Bae
- A flowy dress or kaftan from Simone Irani
- This dress or this tunic from Badger & Fox
- This awesome lounge set from the Uniqlo x Marimekko limited edition collab
- This cool indoor/outdoor robe (or this one, pictured above!) from the new Collective Market at Siri House
A Handmade Card
Have you seen that meme going putting dads on notice that kids won’t be making cards at school this year? We think this blog post from a crafty mama gets the job done nicely. The tulip in a heart card and the heart fingerprint tree are particularly sweet! We also love these printable colouring sheets from local gallery Ode to Art.
