Treat your helper to a healthy dose of fun on her day off, from fitness to cooking lessons

The struggle to achieve a work/life balance is real for all of us! But when you work 6 days a week (and essentially live at your workplace) it can be even tougher. Making time for fun can make a big difference to the rest of the week, whether it’s getting some exercise, indulging a creative side, joining a club or getting together with friends. Make sure your helper knows what’s on offer for her on her day off, especially if she’s new to Singapore.

What does your helper do on her day off? If she’s looking for some fun new activities to try, let her know about these great opportunities from organisations across Singapore.

Dragon Boat Training with Race2Share

Race2Share works closely with foreign domestic workers to get them actively involved in sport for self-empowerment, holistic personal development and better productivity. They organise dragon boat racing every Sunday, as well as outrigger canoeing, with the support of their current training partners. They also conduct various fitness classes like swimming, cycling and running and encourage their members to adopt a fit and active lifestyle. It looks like they’re not opening slots at the moment, but it’s worth keeping up with them on their site or Facebook page for the latest updates.

Helper Cooking Classes

Whether you want to help your helper familiarize herself with your family’s preferred cuisines and recipes, or she has a love of baking, there are heaps of helper cooking classes she can take to booster her skills. Expat Kitchen is a popular favourite for their wide array of helper-friendly courses, from basic cooking to Peranakan specialties. Cookery Magic offers affordable online cooking classes (perfect during the Circuit Breaker). Brettschneider’s Baking & Cooking School (a Sassy Mama fave) also welcomes helpers in their wide range of classes. HOME and FAST also offer specialized cooking classes for helpers on their day off. As always, make sure you check with each kitchen/cooking school on whether they’re currently taking in new students or if they’ve taken a pause due to Covid-19.
