Masterminds: Montessori-inspired Kindergarten and Enrichment to Prepare Kids for Primary School  

Backed by more than two decades of experience and a Montessori mindset, Masterminds is a new preschool and enrichment club that helps kiddos discover the joy of learning

News flash, mamas! There’s a new preschool on the scene – although it’s backed by more than two decades of educational experience. Introducing Masterminds, a kindergarten and enrichment club where kiddos are given the opportunity to discover and embrace the joy of learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Conveniently located on Bukit Timah Road near Newton, Masterminds was co-founded by educator Carol Cheng, who holds a Master’s Degree in Child Development from University College London’s Institute of Education, an International Diploma in Montessori pedagogy, and a Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership from the MOE. “I am an advocate that children are at their best when they engage in purposeful play,” she says, while also acknowledging the importance of being able to adapt to the rigorous demands of the local education system.

“Hence Masterminds was born: a place of balance where children can equip themselves with the necessary academic and life skills to propel them ahead in life.”

This cosy, nurturing school has a small teacher-student ratio starting at just 1:5, ensuring every child receives plenty of personal attention and can go at their own pace. The specialized Montessori English and Math curriculum was also designed in collaboration with The Gifted Lab to scaffold the children’s development and critical thinking skills from the very beginning.

Masterminds is also a one-stop shop when it comes to enrichment, which kiddos can attend to complement the school programme, or separately on an a la carte basis. Families can choose from a wide range of enrichment classes, including Science, Art, Montessori, Critical Thinking and Cultural Studies.

In between, children can also enjoy one of two playrooms – one for life skills, one sensory – with stimulating activities like a bouncy ball, swing, art supplies and a LEGO wall. It’s the perfect way to decompress and explore, all the while boosting self-regulation and self-calming skills, and gaining a stronger understanding of their own emotions.
