The Walls Are Alive! Learning through Art at GESS

The new GESS campus on Dairy Farm Lane is set to come alive with interactive, adaptive walls showcasing the world’s greatest art for students young and old

We’ve told you all about the amazing new Dairy Farm campus opening up later this year at GESS, mama, but details are just now starting to trickle out about some of the cool new initiatives happening at the school once all grades are brought together under one roof.  

It goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that the state-of-the-art Dairy Farm Campus will be a place where learning happens beyond the classrooms; the walls will literally come alive to feature artwork, music, and a variety of other materials, all in the name of enabling students to form connections with concepts they learn in class.

The goal is to create a space that will make every moment as engaging, dynamic and relevant to students’ experiences as possible. It’s not often that an entire campus space is adapted to feature works with a ‘learner-centric’ value; the artwork and other pieces on the wall won’t be just purely decorative. Instead, they will tie in strongly with the lessons being taught in GESS’s state-of-the-art classrooms, from kindergarten up through the older grades!

Big or small, students’ comprehension and interaction with the world around them will be enhanced, as these highly interactive artworks bring concepts to life in a radically new and exciting way, stimulating interdisciplinary thought and inspiring students to think deeply about the ideas that drive art.

Besides their inspiring surroundings, students can delve even deeper into these exciting concepts with digital learning resources expressly designed and made available through iPads.

At the heart of this initiative is the desire to help students extract ideas from the past, see their applicability in the present, and innovate for the future. True to the school’s European foundations, selected works will primarily be of European origin; imagine seeing the Mona Lisa, or a Monet for that matter, on your school hallways, mama.
