From 6 July onwards, an exhibition of artworks by hundreds of preschoolers will take over the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The artworks are a culmination of the inaugural Singapore Art Museum (SAM) Think! Contemporary Preschool Programme – the first collaboration of its kind in Singapore between an art museum and preschools that integrates museum learning into their curricula. This exhibition is presented by SAM, in conjunction with the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival.
Artworks will be displayed at three locations in the Singapore Botanic Gardens:
– Tanglin Green Pavilion
– Nassim Gate Visitor Centre
– Bukit Timah Gate
Presented on-site during the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival, the artworks are the result of the preschoolers’ explorations and interpretations of nature, heritage, and contemporary art. Responding to artworks by contemporary Singapore artists in The SAM Learning Gallery, students used an array of recycled materials, including coffee socks and bottle caps, to create their own artworks. After 8 successful years of the Think! Contemporary Programme with primary schools, SAM worked with 5 partner preschools for this debut preschool edition – Arts Haus International, Arts Kidz International, Cherie Hearts at East Gate Pte Ltd, Dulwich College Singapore, and Zion Kindergarten.
