MINT Museum of Toys kicks off the start of the school holidays with a very special Make & Play programme, The Greatest Science Fantasy. Science fiction has its roots going all the way back to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, with the classic title first published in 1818. Since then, the science fantasy genre has expanded across galaxies, through space and time. With so many films, comic books and TV shows based on science fiction, sci-fi toys were born. This May, Make & Play pays homage to one of the greatest science fantasy film franchises of all time — Star Wars!
Explore a showcase of prized collectibles, key characters, action figures and posters, dating back to 1977! Visitors will get a brief look at the history of the toy company Kenner Products, a once-small family business that took off upon signing a deal with a huge movie franchise. To this day, their toys have brought in US$14 billion worldwide! As always with Make & Play, top off your experience with a hands-on workshop, this time focusing on a DIY zoetrope. Throwback to the early days of film animation by exploring this classic technique, and make your own animation of your favourite sci-fi characters. Take to the stars with Make & Play in The Greatest Science Fantasy!
