Spend a night at the Chinese Opera, and dive deep into the theatrics and spectacle of this cultural treasure! For two nights only, the Asian Civilisations Museum plays host to a kaleidoscopic showcase across song and dance, live music, martial arts, film, colourful costumes, and more. Go backstage with a pioneering opera troupe, or be transformed into a Chinese Opera superstar through workshops, elaborate costumes, and the iconic stage make-up. Enjoy 50% off ACM’s newest special exhibition, Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture, during festival timings on 28 and 29 June.

From traditional performances to modern renditions, be swept away by the dynamic colours, music, and theatre of the Chinese Opera!

Mask-querade! Saturday 29 June, 3pm (Discovery Room, B1)

Unveil the secrets, stories, and symbolism behind the intricate craft of Chinese Opera makeup in this fun-filled mask colouring workshop. It will be facilitated by Nam Hwa Opera, an amateur Teochew music and drama association that aims to preserve and promote traditional art forms.

Learn to Wayang! – by Nam Hwa Opera Saturday 29 June, 4.30pm (Discovery Room, B1)

Be prepared to get inducted into the colourful world of Chinese Opera in this family-friendly crash course, where participants can try their hand at basic Chinese Opera movements and Teochew rhymes through interactive demonstrations while learning about its history.

Next Big Thing by Nam Hwa Opera Friday 28 & Saturday 29 June, 7pm (ACM Green)

In this dazzling performance, meet the new generation of Chinese Opera performers, aged only 5-10 years old!

Tracing Faces by Irfan Kasban 22-30 June, all day (Lobby, L1)

Families will be able to take a peek and snap a photo at this immersive installation that recreates a backstage set of the traditional street opera – an important meditative space for performers to not only get into make-up and costume, but reflect on their characters as well.
