"Before having kids, I wish I knew being a dad is not going to be as easy as being the cool uncle. I married really late and I’ve always been the cool uncle, so I honestly thought taking care of a child would be easy peasy because I love kids and they love me. The one big difference is at the end of the day, you get to return your nephews and nieces to their parents. Having a child, the sleepless nights, the constant worrying, the exhaustion that comes with the constant worrying… It isn’t easy. But a friend once told me that having a child is like riding the most awesome rollercoaster ride; it’ll bring you to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but you wouldn’t want to trade that ride for anything in the world." We talked about the article I wrote on @sassymamasg titled, "Kids Wearing Other Ethnicities’ Traditional Outfits: Appropriation or Appreciation?" I'll be honest, I was so nervous that I forgot to mention one important thing I noted in the article about this topic – one of the main reasons for writing this article was to urge everyone to address our own biases and assumptions we may have about people from certain races. The last thing we want is to celebrate RHD by wearing each others' cultural outfits while simultaneously having certain notions about other ethnicities, eg. painting everyone from a certain race with the same brush; lacking understanding or showing discontent for others' religious practices; or assuming someone's capabilities or level of intelligence by their race (especially in schools or at the workplace). Most will think that partaking in this uniquely Singaporean practice is innocent fun and can't possibly lead to bigger, complicated issues, but only when we confront these preconceived notions we may have, can we move forward and be a more inclusive and diverse society. Let's all strive to be more mindful and respectful, and try our best to pass on our learnings to our children so the next generation comes out even better. NEW INDOOR PLAYGROUND ALERT 🤩 Kiztopia Club has JUST opened in Punggol! The @kiztopiasg indoor playground we all know and love at Marina Square has launched the new Kiztopia Club concept which now has playgrounds in Punggol Town Square and Jurong Point. We got to check out the Punggol indoor playground (next to Waterway Point!) this week and had a fab time! Decked in a safari theme, the 5,500sqft space is full of fun for kids under 10 years old. There are 12 play concepts and special zones, including an indoor driving car area, exciting role-play rooms (the supermarket was our little one's fave!), fun-filled ball pits and even a toddlers’ sandpit.
